MilesBuzz! - For those of you who don't stay at Holiday Inn- 5000 Miles

Here's an idea, if you don't stay at Holiday Inn's. Open a Priority Club account. Get a PC credit card, then open an account with NetBank (links easy to find from PC website). Easy 20,000 points (2 free HI Express nights) or 5,000 miles in the airline of your choice.
Sorry if this has been posted before. Just been doing some thinking.
NetBank now charges $25 closure fee for accounts that are open less than 6 months.

Better yet, earning 20K points from any sources = gold status for the rest of the year & all of next year!

You get very little for being gold in Priority Club, or at least that was my experience. You are supposed to get upgrades, but my experience is that is very hit or miss, mostly miss unless you ask about it at checkin, and even then the desk clerk is untrained in any benefits. Some hotels do offer incentives, I stayed at one that gave their Gold guests a free pay per view movie, and another that gave you a coupon for a free cocktail, but these were more the exception, and in Holiday Inn standard were exceptional.
I gave up on Holiday Inn's a couple of years ago, as I have had much better luck with Hilton and Marriott for upgrades and a newspaper delivered consistantly. In small towns it used to be the Holiday Inn was the only deal in town, or the only safe deal in town, but with Hilton adding Hampton, and Marriott having Courtyards/Fairfields you can pretty much go anywhere and find a hotel/motel that is in either the Hilton or Marriott family.

According to what I'm reading on Priority Club's website, the maximum number of points that one can earn for opening a NetBank account is 10,000 points, not 20,000. I'm sure that's what I'm reading, but please correct me if I am wrong.

10,000 points for NetBank + 10,000 points for the PC credit card.

WARNING:
Net Bank has a huge list of unresolved complaints against it.
Problems include according to online posts
Inactivity charge for not paying enough bills $25.00 .What happens if your out of the Country ?
There are also no branches to deal with in person other then an ATM machine.
Also
Penalties for making to large of a deposit
Removal of remaining funds when one closes an account and other assorted frightening practices.
Thank God I did my research first.
Certainly not worth 10,000 miles or 5 k in my opinion for problems & nightmares.
It also has no branches so you are forced to deal strictly by mail to do business.
And from what I hear they are not flexible or adaptable in any way with regard to customer service.
Let the Buyer Beware
AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!
Good luck if you decide to go for it!
Sounds to risky
If anyone else has flattering things to say I'd like to hear about it.
There are a lot of unhappy clients of Net Bank out there

I've had netbank accounts for over a year and have had no problems, although I agree there are a few uncustomary charges that may ding you if you don't read the account disclosure and act in a manner so as to avoid them. On the positive side, there is no minimum checking balance to avoid service charges and the money market balance requirement to avoid service charges is an incredibly low $250 average during the statement cycle. Instead of PC points, you can get $50 cash to open through a link on www.bankrate.com (http://www.bankrate.com) as I did for each of a checking and money market account ($100 total). In my case, the $50 per new checking and money market account was a better deal than the 10,000 PC points for a checking account.

I had a netbank account for about 2 years and have no problems with it. In fact, I am considering moving my other accounts to NetBank

I have a NetBank account and no problems. But you have to study the "fine prints", otherwise you are ending up with some fees.
I just keep my account with small transactions "alive". But I like to use the account when I withdraw money from ATMs in foreign countries. It works perfect and it looks that NetBank does not charge a fee.
You also have to read and understand the "fine prints" in order to get the 10,000 points; you get the points on a certain balance on/after a certain time.

I have used NetBank for 3 years while living here in Amsterdam. So far there have been no problems. I certainly cannot say that about ABN-amro, my Dutch bank. NetBank's bill paying service is just what I need, since I still have business obligations in the states. Their customer service has been prompt and offered insightful advice. Unfortunately, three years ago there were no incentives for opening an account.

Sounds a lot better then what I read
And I read over 12 complaints.I trust the Flyer talk word more
However it seems like they have set up some of their customers for failure and those fees will eat up your $100 in miles mighty quick if as you say you don't read the fine print .
They also seem to be inflexible for first time mistakes.......
I may weaken and try it but not before having a lawyer present http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, they are somewhat inflexible, they have a streamlined organization, that's their business model.
Regarding "read the fine print", just read their fee rules in order to avoid unwanted fees.
I just have a few (one or two) transactions a month .. to keep them happy and avoid any fees. And I use the card at ATMs.

Then one more transfer for 10,000 Hilton HHonors points if you choose the correct airline. Has a nice irony to it.
