Korean Air Skypass - Help me optimize a $6,300 KE Voucher

OK, so I got this $6,300 Korean Air voucher I'd like to take advantage of. I cannot refund it, need to use it up. Unfortunately, KE won't let me break up the voucher into several tickets, so I need your help in finding a way to use it on one trip… :)

My goal is to fly from/near DTW to SE Asia in Prestige (C) Class. Destinations would be DPS (meet my parents who will be vacationing there), as well as BKK (never been, could use a new suit…) :)

Flying with KE directly to DPS doesn't seem to work – my schedule does not align with theirs (they only fly there 4 days a week), so I was looking at flying to KUL, SIN or CGK and taking a LCC to DPS.

Getting from DPS to BKK didn't seem feasible with KE, as I would have to fly through ICN. That in itself would not be a problem, as I'm using this trip as a MR, but it seemed a bit cost prohibitive (around $2K) and takes all day (ICN layover would be 8 hours), so I will probably have to purchase a separate LCC ticket instead of incorporating this trip into the KE ticket.

The best I found so far is DTW-ATL-ICN-KUL (dep 3/21), returning BKK-ICN-ATL-DTW (dep. 3/30). That 'C' class fare, unfortunately, is only $6,036 – a bit shy of my $6,300 voucher.

I did find a decently-priced SEA-ICN-BKK-ICN-SEA 'C' fare for $3,866, and was hoping to tack on a few legs within the region inside of the SEA-BKK trip to reach the value of my voucher ($6,300, so I'd need to find flights for about $2,400). I can't find trips long enough to be worth this extra hassle.

Any other tips on how to get as close to $6,300 (without going too much over or under), and get as close as possible from DTW to DPS and BKK? I'm all ears – I've been studying fares and schedules for the past 4 days!!!

Thanks,
Bostonbali

Not sure if this'll work with KE, but try booking several trips under the same PNR. I did this on NW before when paying with vouchers.

e.g.
OUT: DTW-LGA
IN: LGA-DTW
OUT: FNT-LAX
IN: LAX-FNT

Or you can just give it to me. That'll be the most optimal. ;)

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, KE won't let you book more than one RT on the same PNR, I tried all angles...

The best I could come up with was:

DTW-JFK (NW Y)
JFK-ICN (KE C)
ICN-KUL (KE F)

(fly Air Asia KUL-DPS, then DPS-CGK-BKK)

BKK-ICN (KE C)
ICN-ATL (KE C)
ATL-DTW (DL Y)

This combo of flights let me visit the places I wanted (or at least arrive nearby then take LCC to my final destinations), and use up my entire cert on one trip, while generating around 29K EQM's...

Good job on your Busan trip report, by the way. I found it very informative!
