Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - ? on changing a multi-airline expedia itin ?

Hey,
Thanks for helping me out! Not exactly sure how this would work out with expedia...Flight rules are below. All we need to change is the date of the last flight from SLC-ORD (fly 2 days later). As I see it there are 2 options.
1. Cancel this itin and rebook, but what would be the cost, and would the credit then be held by expedia or the individual airlines???
2. Just not fly the return segment (either no show or cancel after flying the first 2 legs), after previously having bought the same flight as a one way ticket for 2 days later.

Here are the rules:
"Milwaukee, WI (MKE-General Mitchell Intl.) to Las Vegas, NV (LAS-All Airports) (and return)
Tickets are nonrefundable. A fee of $100.00 per ticket will be charged for itinerary changes after the tickets are issued, provided that the booking rules were followed.
Las Vegas, NV (LAS-All Airports) to Salt Lake City, UT (SLC-Salt Lake City Intl.) (and return)
Tickets are nonrefundable. A fee of $75.00 per ticket will be charged for itinerary changes after the tickets are issued, provided that the booking rules were followed.
Salt Lake City, UT (SLC-Salt Lake City Intl.) to Chicago, IL (ORD-O'Hare) (and return)
Tickets are nonrefundable. A fee of $75.00 per ticket will be charged for itinerary changes after the tickets are issued, provided that the booking rules were followed.
In addition to any penalties imposed by the airline, a processing fee of up to $30.00 per ticket will be charged by Expedia for any changes you make to the flights in this itinerary. This fee is waived for changes made online."

Because this is multi-airline, we cannot make changes online, so as I see it, to cancel the entire ticket, it would cost $280 per ticket to cancel (from the orignal cost of $490, we'd be left with $210 per tix). We could then rebook for 460. It seems the most cost-effective is buying a new oneway ticket for 180, but is this "legal?" Would we have any problems?

Thanks a lot!

Expedia will charge you $30 + change fee + any difference in fare for the segment. (Are you meeting advance purchase rules? Are there any restrictions on date or day of week of travel? Is there availability in the same fare class? You haven't given us the full fare rules or the fare basis codes that would allow us to look up the relevant rules.)

You will need pay the change fee for each segment, you will pay only one change fee.

Since the change fee is an airline charge, I assume that the change fee for the specific segment will apply ($75).

An agent might read 'most restrictive rules apply' and think that the change fee would be $100, but I believe this would be incorrect.

Meanwhile, why not just call Expedia and ask them how they would handle it?

By the way, whether or not 'throwaway ticketing' (just not flying the last segment) is permitted under the airline's contract of carriage depends on the airline (there's no prohibition with United, for instance, on throwaway ticketing). Either way, it's generally not a problem as long as you're not doing it on a large scale.

Also, before calling Expedia, I would research what new one-way tickets would cost for the last leg. That way you will be prepared as to whether or not to accept the fees/costs quoted by Expedia. Good luck.
