I need your help. i be going to shanghai on March 28th and it will be my first time going there. Which is the best area to stay. pudong or Puxi! jplus Dec 16, 07, 6:34 am Business or pleasure? Pudong is closer to the PVG airport, and there is Maglev train service from PVG to Pudong downtown. Puxi is the older, more centralized part of town. Most sightseeing and tourist attractions are in Puxi. Getting between Pudong and Puxi can be hectic in rush hour traffic. If you must, use the subway. LOL....you're from Singapore and asking who flies out to Shanghai :) I recall a big China Southern sign on a building....I'm sure they among other local China airlines have non-stops. I suspect calling a 'local' travel agent should get you a good deal. Also, I wouldn't say that the maglev goes to Pudong 'downtown.' First of all, I'm not knowledgable enough to know where Pudong downtown is -- I wasn't aware there was one. Second, the maglev ends WAY out of town regardless. Still, it's worth taking one way regardless of where you are staying, just to say you did. I've noticed that scammers in Shanghai are as expert at ripping off Chinese from Singapore as they are at ripping off westerners, by the way, so watch out for all the usual stuff. anacapamalibu Dec 16, 07, 8:37 pm it's for pleasure definately!! haha... just really in a need of relaxaton Shanghai - Relaxation that reminds me back in the 70's Military - Intelligence I guess today it would be: Rap - Artist mosburger Dec 16, 07, 8:41 pm For relaxing I'd head for the Hongqiao area in the western part of Shanghai. Jon_Heng Dec 17, 07, 3:46 am hey Thanks guys...anyway i need to know which hotel to stay?? like a good hotel most probmy budget is 300 to 350 sing. per night Thanks!! Sry this is my first time Keith009 Dec 17, 07, 4:18 am Puxi - definitely. As an SPG ho I'm not going to be objective when I tell you that I had an awesome time at the Westin Bund Centre. I'm sure others will be more objective but you generally can't go wrong around the Bund. Jon_Heng Dec 17, 07, 5:48 am hey just wanna ask.... why is it when in end of march ( 28th March to 1st April) the price of the rooms is as ex. as this year x'mas?? jplus Dec 17, 07, 11:12 am Shanghai - Relaxation that reminds me back in the 70's Military - Intelligence I guess today it would be: Rap - Artist Airport - Security. moondog Dec 17, 07, 6:52 pm Jing'an (one of the ~7 districts in Puxi; my favorite because it is the heart of the city and boasts lots of nice restaurants/stores). air_male Dec 26, 07, 6:54 pm Where ever you end up staying, take the Maglev either to or from the airport! One of the few in the world and yours to experience!^ mosburger Jan 1, 08, 4:59 am Where ever you end up staying, take the Maglev either to or from the airport! One of the few in the world and yours to experience!^ Very few people who either live in or travel frequently to Shanghai use the Maglev. I think it's brilliant if you are visiting the exhibition centre near Longyang Rd. station straight off the plane but not for much else. OT but at least the restaurants behind the Maglev entrance at PVG are a bit more varied and with better taste than in the main terminal. dtsm Jan 1, 08, 11:23 am Very few people who either live in or travel frequently to Shanghai use the Maglev. I think it's brilliant if you are visiting the exhibition centre near Longyang Rd. station straight off the plane but not for much else. In general, you're right. However, even frequent visitors and/or residents do use it when unable to hail a taxi and you happen to be close to subway station ;) |
