Got in on the CO mistake fare MIA-ANC. I arrive on July 3 and depart on the 6th. I know this is peak season so that may be why I'm not finding hotel availability. Any recommendations for simething downtown that might not show up on search engines?

Thanks for any help.

It's next to impossible to find anything below $100 a night in ANC in the summer. Even the Motel 6 is something like $130. Try the ACVB at www.anchorage.net for a directory and go from there.

Have a good trip!

Thanks for the link and tips.

I'll also be there the end of May, so I can snoop around then. Am looking forward to my return to your fair city; it's one of my favorite places to visit.

I got lucky last July and snagged the Sheraton on priceline for around $90 I think. It was the same price as the Econo Inn that I had originally reserved. I did not get it until a day or two before, so keep checking as the trip comes close if try the priceline method.

Hotwire is showing a 2* in Anchorage - Central for $99 for July 3-6. For our dates in September (pre-cruise) I got the Extended Stay Deluxe on Hotwire - as 2.5* for $49 and also on Priceline -as 2* for $39.

I usually get $30s via Priceline, but then I usually go in September. July will no doubt be different. But a lot of new rooms have come on line in the last 3 or so years thanks to Extended Stay America and others building hotels in Midtown. My strategy would be to book the cheapest that could be cancelled without penalty, then play the Priceline game in the 30-day window beforehand. It's unlikely that hotels will drop prices significantly this far in advance.
