If one wanted to fly to INC from the US, and return the same day (actually, within 1 1/2 hrs), would one need to go thru customs/immigration, if they don't have business outside the secured part of the airport??

I'd check the transits/turnarounds thread. I'm sure there are some ICN experiences.

Except for a few routes... it isnt possible to do a direct turnaround(would you anyways?!:O ) For example.. KE38 departs ORD at 11:40 am Chicago times and flies for about 15 hrs to ICN.. then lands at 4:05 or 4:10 PM next day. KE37 ICN-ORD departs Seoul each day at 12:00 pm Seoul time.. so therefore.. there are two aircraft running back and forth to ORD at different times.. when one is leaving for ORD.. the flight inbound from ORD is still about 5 hours+ inbound somewhere over Russia when KE37 takes off towards ORD... I believe this is also the case with the flights to ATL, IAD,JFK,SEA. I can only see it feasible to do that from LAX, because there are several flights that fly to ICN and back..

On the other hand.. personally I just think its a waste to fly that far and then turn around again.. stay a bit.. lol!

Well, considering you could sleep (hopefully) and eat on the planes...
I was looking at a schedule from KE's website, where the outbound to ICN is on KE metal, and return is on DL metal. Not quite 1 1/2 hrs between arrival & departure.

Yikes! That is a heck of a mileage run!

I always visit when I am in Korea now so it has been years since I did a fly through at ICN but it was easy in the past. Stay inside the secured area and you won't have to go through immigration.

ICN has great KE lounges if you can get into them with your Skypass elite card. The NWA Worldclub is nothing to get excited about but is there if you have a World Clubs card or Crown card (Delta)but not Skyteam Elite+

Not that you have much time! Have a great trip!
