How far is it from the airport to Silk Street Market? Cardinal direction, time, cost and best way to get there? Also how is the luggage storage at the airport?

Looking at an 8 hour layover in Beijing and wondering if I have time to do a little shopping...

Daddy needs a new Rolex ;)

Thanks in advance.

8 hours should be no problem to hit 1 if not 2 or 3 of the fake markets.
Its kinda funny I just got a call from a client ( very high end Swiss brand watchmaker) about problems with the Chinese copying their watches. I saw over 2500 listings on Taobao for their fakes. So I guess the Chines like
good replicas.

The Lido would be the easiest from the airport, but the problem there is that the vendors are more scattered than they are in some of the better known fake markets.... plus, 8 hours is enough time to see some of the real BJ (well, at least insofar as Sanlitun is "real") so you might as well do it.

So here's my advice:

-take the Guomao bus (I forget the number, but it's the one that parks at the far right end of the terminal) and jump off at the first or second stop on 3rd ring
-take a taxi to the massage place behind 3.3 (it's a really great place; I should have mentioned it in the spa thread)
-leave your luggage there (while I'm not willing to put my life on the line in the name of the security of their premises, they seem like nice people to me; keep your money and your passport on you to be safe)
-head over to Yaxiu (Yashow) and do your shopping
-walk around a bit and get a massage or two (and also a shower)
-as an added bonus, one of my favorite DVD stores is right next to the massage place and all the rooms in the massage place have nice TV setups

edited to add: take a taxi back to the airport; the bus is less convenient in the reverse direction
