Okay, I know the destination is Bali, but where to stay? The majority of our trip will be spent on the beach, with a few days inland. Now begs the question, does anyone have any suggestions for a great room, at the beach, in a more romantic setting tht is more private than touristy but isn't $1000+ night. I don't mind spending $300-$600/night. Can anyone our there help? Also, does anyone have any suggested airlines or travel agents for the area?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Michael

welcome to flyertalk :)

amankila is extremely well regarded in luxury hotels forum.

you might also check out private villa rentals, the values are fantastic, and you can get beachfront.

BTW koh samui in thailand is also good for beachfront private villas, moreso than phuket.

Check out www.pitamaharesorts-bali.com for ubud and other nice resorts in bali within your budget.
There are a number of other small river view resorts close to ubud, some with private pools.

The legian and the chedi are well regarded and in the price range you are looking at. see www.ghmhotels.com .

First of all congratulations on your recent wedding.Hope you will be blessed with a great life and family.

Ok... whatever it is avoid Kuta if you want to have a great and memorial honeymoon.

I would recommend areas like Ubud,Seminyak or you can go to this link:
http://sg.travel.yahoo.com/guide/indonesia and work your way from there.

There are plenty of flights from Singapore that flies to Bali.
Singapore Airlines have about 3 daily flights. Morning/Afternoon/Night.
Garuda has 2 flights with an late afternoon schedule and an early evening shedule. They do have a deal that flies out of SIN in the morning and catch a connecting flight from Soekarno Hatta Airport ( CGK )
Qantas has a limited schedule out of SIN.
JetStar Asia has daily flights and they are quite cost effective.
From where are you starting your journey anyway?

All the same have a safe and good trip and happy Honeymoon!

Cheers!

Congratulations!

Bali is an EXTREMELY affordable destination. Everything is in or under your budget.

If you provide a few more thoughts on what you enjoy, you should receive a good focus on recommendations. My question would be whether you prefer a villa vs. resort.

I HIGHLY recommend getting away from the sterile western enclave of the south and seeing Bali. Or just save the dough and go to St. Pete.

my guess is you will quickly discover that you have the trip reversed. In fact you will want to spend the majority of your time inland and a little time at the beaches.

ubud is much more interesting than the tourist beaches. more going on there too.

But if you do beaches, my personal suggestion is that you move around and try various areas rather than staying in one.

so do some days in the south, but a day in lovina, and maybe one of the other areas, and at least 2 nights in ubud.

Bali is affordable - it may seem expensive because it's far, but it's a great place for a honeymoon. There is the Oberoi and the Four Seasons and the the Sheraton Nua Dusa. So many beautiful places.

I would recommend www.asiarooms.com - this site the travel agents use.

Have a GREAT time!

This website is the "Flyertalk" of Bali..........

http://www.balitravelforum.com/

You can find a recommended barber, restaurant, tailor, hotel, driver, travel agent (etc. etc.) on the site.... Just go through the archives, or post your own questions.

The site is predominantly Aussie, and many website regulars have either lived in, or traveled to Bali many times.

Have a great time.

I second the suggestion of spending more time in Ubud than the beach areas. With the central location of Ubud, you can rent a car and driver (inexpensively) to see the whole island -- it's beautiful.

If travelling around with car or driver budget 20% for bribes where ever you go

Go inland.

Ubud is not only a great region in itself, it is also a good "home base" for ventures throughout the island.

Here is a driver recommendation: Dewa Marco, www.dewamarco-tour.blogspot.com Also mentioned on the Bali Driver thread.

Beaches around the island totally blow away those of the generic southern resorts. Candidasa, Amed, Manjangan just to name a few areas.
