Wondering how the Economy service and seating are on KE, esp.

1) Compared to the "old" (not refurbished a/c) Economy on KE, and

2) Compared to other airlines - U.S. and Asian for transpac flights.

I'm assuming alcoholic beverages are still complimentary(?). How many
food/snack services are on, say an ATL or JFK to ICN flight?

Thanks!

I flew on KE last Dec/this past janaury.... ex.. ORD-ICN-ORD,, both flights, the 747-400 serving the flight had new style seating and the AVOD entertainment system. Now, I believe a 777-200 operates the flight now, which also has the AVOD and new seating. The food is great and the IFE is better compared to what is offerred on the other airlines serving between us and korea directly with the exeception of Singapore Air from SFO-ICN.... I believe, from looking at the Flight Schedules, that both from ATL and JFK, the New seating is on those flights. I would fly them if I were you.

Hope this helps :D^

Thanks for the input! Do you have any words of wisdom on the service provided by the cabin crew? Was the food service more/better than other airlines on the routes? Thanks again.

I fly ORD-ICN-ORD several times a year, always in economy. I really prefer KE economy to any US metal (big surprise, I know) and to Asiana (but as you see I am a prisoner of Skyteam)

It's true the planes are warm compared to most US/European planes. I travel in a tank top and bring a sweater.

I like the food. I am a believer that it is always better to eat the food of the country flying the plane. KE is noted for their bibimbab, a national dish in Korea. If you just can't stomach the Korean food the western food isn't bad.

The alcohol is free. They don't come around and offer drinks as often as they used to (sigh) but you can always ask for anything and they quickly and graciously serve it to you.

Typical service ORD-ICN is drinks, food/drinks, duty free, snack/juices, drinks, food/drinks. There is a helpful timetable at the back of the in-flight magazine.

The AVOD rocks. You will also want to check on www.Seatguru.com to see if the cabin you will be in has electrical outlets. I have had great luck with all systems working well on every flight.

Have a good flight.

First, don't look at seatguru.com... second.. I can tell you from looking at an official schedule of Korean Air that I have from Korea (I'm there right now), that the ORD-ICN-ORD is operated with a 777-200ER with New Seats and New AVOD.. Expect EXCELLENTE top IFE, compared to flying on US Airlines.. the food is great.. good snacks offered enroute... Plenty of drinks... tons of chances for drinking water (they come around very often).. and from another standpoint.. be prepared to have some "eye candy" to look at ;) KE's FA's are VERY, VERY Attractive!!! (Singapore Girl watch out).... ;) Also, the Duty-Free Options are very plentiful! I'd fly then anytime I have to go to Asia from here on out.. I flew ORD-ICN-ORD Dec. 2006 and Jan. 2007.. I'll be flying in about two weeks ICN-TPE for 4 1/2 days in C to visit a German friend there in Taiwan.. then i'll fly TPE-ICN-LAX in C. I can't wait to see their C product!! ;)

LOL! Bimmer is a Homer and more power to him. He is right Lufthansa is a good airline too, took it to Libya a couple months ago and it was fine. The bread is the best in the air : )

Of course looking at the KE site will give you the exact configuration for each flight. I'd still take a peak at Seatguru to give you the heads up on some of the less desirable/desirable seats on any aircraft as well as a seat by seat configuration of power ports. KE is great in all aspects and was one of the first airlines to offer power ports in coach...but not all cabins have it.

Haha! I'm a Homer? Why? Under which basis?? Bread+Germany=belong together!

I'm interested in flying DFW-ICN on KE, codeshared with CO, and saw service is on their 777. I remember a while back that DFW-ICN-DFW was one of the last flights to get the 777s with updated services in Y. Has this status changed?

Also, what is the status for intra-Asian flights. I'm planning to connect onto their 747 service ICN-MNL-ICN and 777 ICN-NRT. Do these flights see the new updated service?

Does anyone know if the LAX-ICN is the new economy seats? Going in March '08.

cpsri99: Yes, all LAX-ICN direct flights have new seats and AVOD. Avoid via NRT flight.

AznMadSci: Sadly DFW is still with old config. I'm so annoying with this, especially as the one living in Texas (Austin). It will take several months more to see new config on this route. And when it comes to short haul like MNL and NRT, it is very changeable, so hard to say which one will go, but I would say less than 30% chance.

Thanks for the info on seats and power ports... BTW, are these US standard AC ports or asian? Don't want to check my converter and be kicking myself for 14 hours :)

As for the seats, since I'll be in late-booked steerage I'll take whatever is left :(

In-seat power outlets will usually accept almost every type of plug with one or two exceptions.

The pc power outlets usually take both US style, Euro style, or UK style plugs all in the same plug on the seat and are free voltage...

LOL! While I generally believe the answer to all questions can be found in "The Simpsons" I guess that is more for philosophy and life choices.

A "homer" is a fan...mostly used to describe a sportscaster with a distinct hometown bias.

OK, so is the old Y config really that bad?

I'm flying LAX-NRT at the end of this month and the AC has 57 rows, which (as bobbybrown promised earlier in this thread) looks like the old config. The KE website didn't really give details as to the setup in the old Y, nor does their flight sked indicate exactly which config is operated on the route. The Flash presentation in the "On Board" section promises "AVOD in all seats. Not just certain seats, but all seats." If only.

I'm preparing for zippy VOD and attempting to watch only half of the available features on the movie screen each way. I'm going to choose my books carefully.

Still a few seats open so I have some options, and the old config 772 doesn't show up on Seatguru - where should I sit? I'm guessing I want to sit closer to the front of my section of the Y cabin so I can see the screen in case something interesting is shown.

Any other advice for KE? I love Korean food so I'll be ordering the Korean-style meal. Aside from that, this is my first KE flight and I'm looking forward to it, especially not having to pay $5 for drinks. What beers are typically available on this route? If it's Bud and Hite I'll be having several G&T's.:D

In any case, I'm getting double DL EQM out if it so I can't complain. If KE is as good as everyone says it is I'm looking forward to begging DL for an award ticket SEA-NRT in the future.;)

Hopefully I didn't bump too old of a thread here; it looked like the most appropriate thread to post in.

I'm also flying on KE001 and KE002 from LAX to NRT and NRT to LAX aboard the B777-200 in May. It is sad to hear that there are no AVOD systems and this is the old seat configuration. Does anyone know if there are any power ports on this flight?

For my return ICN-IAD flight, I noticed that the aircraft has been switched from a 747 to a 777-200. Seatguru doesn't show any powerports in economy, but is that actually the case?

Come to think of it, I think the Koreans' love of the Three B's - Beethoven (classical music), baked goods, and beer came from the Germans...

In answer to my own question, I found that each coach seat had its own powerport. I have to say, the seats on the 777-200 were the best regular economy seats I've ever experienced. Very nice legroom, especially after dumping all those thick back seat magazines into the overhead bin. It was nice having an empty seat next to me as well. :)

Hi everyone,

I'm flying JFK-ICN, ICN-IAD (747, 777, I believe) next week, which as you know are pretty long flights. I'm 6'2" and weighing in around 240lbs. Upgrading from H class is not really a financial option for me :( So, I was wondering if you had tips or secrets to share about flying KE economy beyond the color-codes of Seatguru? :D

LAX is the "one-stop" for this Sao Paulo/Seoul flight. According to this page (http://www.koreanair.com/local/na/gp/eng/if/ni/eng_if_ni_main.jsp) it appears that the flight does have AVOD.

Last year the LAX-NRT route was still the old 777-200 with no avod or power(2-5-2 seat arrangement). Meh. Delta indicates it is 2-5-2 again for some upcoming travel. Does anyone know if there is avod and/or power? Has KE updated all of their 772s or are they still boring for the NRT travelers?

did my own research on the KE website, nope. that's why they say to avoid these flights I guess
