There isn't much going on near the JW -- it's one of the nicest Marriotts around, but the location is awful. You'll probably have to take a cab or ride the subway to more attractive places, as referenced in the threats pointed out by Sweet Willie.

Nearby, as in "accessible by cab or subway": Yes.

Nearby, as in "within walking distance": Not really.

Nearby, as in "the hotel is located right in the heart of": No.

This is a pretty good map of Seoul: http://www.escortmap.co.kr/english/e_sall.htm -- the JW is right next to the Bus Terminal in D-4.

There is a pretty good Korean sauna complex in the basement of the long distance bus station building next door to the Marriot. Very nice "Japanese" 70'es retro style.

Apart from that not much to be seen or experienced. Better take the subway or taxi to more interesting parts of Seoul.

The Marriott itself has a rather stupendous spa-gym-golf-masochism complex in the basement -- do not miss it! Quoting my own trip report (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6012653&postcount=20):

The JW Marriott Seoul looks like just every other JW in Asia, but the real surprise was lurking in the basement: the famed Marquis Spa, of which I'd heard whispered tales of awe on Flyertalk. I was actually sufficiently tired that I briefly considered just a shower in my room, but I forced myself to head downstairs, and, well, damn. Facilities available include a humongous gym complete with indoor running track and interesting torture machines that let you strap yourself in by your feet and then yank you up to hang upside down like a bat, an Olympic-sized heated swimming pool, a 5-meter scuba pool, a full selection of Aquagym water workout machines, an assortment of hot tubs and saunas (all available in male, female and mixed versions), a climbing wall, not one but three golf driving ranges, a solarium room, a whole bunch of full-body showers, and -- phew -- a resting room.
