Budget Travel - Istanbul for an overnight

HI I am interested in a flight that would have me stopover in Istanbul and then continue to Amsterdam the next morning at 7. I like the times and everything but not sure about staying over. Would there be inexpensive hotels near the airport, or could I be comfortable in the airport all night? I have often gone out on the town and then crashed back at the airport like 2am is this OK for that airport?

If you have a chance to visit Istanbul for an evening, please take it. It's a unique city and the pretty bits are very compact. There are lots of inexpensive hotels in the city and it's easy to get back to the airport day or night

I'm splitting a journey LON-SHJ in IST. I've got two days there - can anyone recommend somewhere to stay that's good to meet people, but safe for laptops etc? A hostel-style place with single rooms perhaps?
