My wife and I booked a 4WD trip through this company - Offroad Vietnam (http://www.offroadvietnam.com/eng/2.php). We spent five days doing the "middle road" to Sapa through Nghia Lo and Than Uyen. We expected a lot, given the total price of $1080 for five days including vehicle, driver, guide, all accommodations and meals.
Offroad Vietnam exceeded all our expectations and we had the trip of a lifetime. We are used to winging it, kind of on the lower end, and we got real VIP treatment from this company. The guide, Ngoc Nguyen, and the manager, Anh Wu, were great.
They are basically a motorcycle outfitter, but can also do 4WD. It was really a superior experience and I wanted to give them a thumbs up and recommend them to anyone wanting to do something off the regular tourist trail in North Vietnam.
