9th island?

Yes!: there are so many Hawai'ians living in the Valley, and so many of us go there so frequently, that Las Vegas is known as the "Ninth Island Of Hawai'i" to us kama'aina! ;) ^ ^ :D

Our State has eight islands: O'ahu; Maui; Moloka'i; Lana'i; Kaua'i; Kaho'olawe; the Big Island; Ni'ihau......

And nine, if you count Las Vegas!

There are more Hawai`ia folks living in Las Vegas than anywhere except Hawai`i. It is a regular vacation route for many kama`aina (locals). Many if not most families have someone in the family who lives in Las Vegas.

The only west-bound redeye to Hawai`i leaves LAS at 2:45 a.m., and HA markets it to a) families who want to visit family members in Las Vegas and still be home in time to go to work Monday morning, and b) those who want the maximal amount of time at the tables and still are able to get to work on Monday morning.

At least a couple of the casino hotels downtown market almost exclusively to Hawai`i residents, and, when you're gambling there you would think you're back home. :)

Hence, the appellation "The Ninth Island" in addition to the actual islands of Kaua`i, Ni`ihau, O`ahu, Moloka`i, Lana`i, Maui, Ko`olawe, and Hawai`i (the Big Island).

I travel to Vegas a few times a year. I have never noticed a large number of Hawaiians anywhere. As a matter of fact, I don't recall ever seeing somebody that looked Hawaiian.

Maybe I'll pay a little more attention in March, maybe they will just pop out everywhere!

They usually hang around HOT dice tables --- well, at least they did at the Stardust. Those Hawai'ians sure know how to roll d'em bones. :D

If you're on the strip, check out the 80,000sf Hawai'ian Marketplace: http://www.vegas.com/shopping/hawaiian.html

Downtown, check out Sam Boyd's California Hotel and Casino: I swear, you'll think you're in Honolulu! http://www.thecal.com/display.cfm?id=1037

Also, check out the ABC Stores (Fashion Show Mall and Fremont St.); and the Long's Drugs around the valley.

Also, chances are, wherever you are, someone in the Cage, Front Desk, Cocktail Waitress or Bell Staff is from Hawai'i! ;)

Make sure to say "Aloha!"

FACT!!!!! ^ ^ :D

kaukau are you sure they are over 2,000,000. Maybe they count you each visit.

I like to play dice and appreciate a table with focussed players who know how to hold those little cubes for a long while.

I will be there next year and maybe we will overlap

My eyesight is going. I thought the headline said, Clark County Passes 2 Million Marks, which anyone can do on the I-15 on any given Friday night.
