South - Sugar Bowl travelers

We're heading to the Sugar Bowl, arriving New years Eve and looking for some resturaunt & club recommendations. We'd like to find a nice place for dinner, the head to a jazz or cajun/zydecco club for the remainder of the evening.
We'll have our UH student with us, so looking for an all age club.
TIA!
:)
In what part of town are you staying? What price range for restaurants? If high end, do a search in this forum as I posted some suggestions in that thread. I can post suggestions depending on your hotel location, if that is a critical consideration.

We're staying at the Courtyard by the airport and will have a car, so location isn't too big of an issue. As for price, $75-100 per person? We've looked at nomenu.com, which is great, but we didn't find anywhere that would be a one stop deal. We'd like to book dinner somewhere that will have live music and a full service bar, but allows all ages, as our student is 19.
If you know a place that local families or younger people gather, that would be great! Appreciate any suggestions.

Palm Court Jazz Cafe, 1204 Decatur St. (French Quarter) (504)525-0200
Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro, 626 Frenchmen St. (Faubourg Marigny, across Esplanade Ave. from the FQ) (504) 949-0696
Another suggestion would be to go to Jacques-Imo's Cafe (8324 Oak St., (504)861-0886) and then go next door to the Maple Leaf Bar. The Maple Leaf is a classic N.O. music club.
I could suggest one of the restaurants that has Cajun or Zydeco music, but having been raised on Creole and Cajun food, I won't.

I'm going to New Orleans for the first time in early January. I'm staying at the Windsor Court on Graviers St. I'd like some recommendations for Creole or Cajun, and a good place to listen to Zydeco.
Thanks

The BEST place for Zydeco, hands down, is Rock n Bowl. Thursdays are Zydeco nights. http://www.rockandbowl.com/

I wouldn't rent a car, if I were you. It's hard to find reasonable parking (except maybe Harrah's) and cabs are easy/safe - and no dwi's. ^
A lot of restaurants/clubs go with package deals for NewYears, so do some research beforehand. I think that Jackson Sq. still has the ball drop at midnight.

Thanks for all the recomendations. I've booked tickets at the RockandBowl one night and are still researching New Years Eve options. The UH alumni are doing a party at Generation Hall, but I'm afraid it will be mostly an older crowd, not many students.
We tried to make reservations at the Highline, but were told they hadn't decided to accept RSVP yet. (?)
As for renting a car, we plan on visiting some plantations and driving over to Biloxi to visit our old house (if its still there), so will definately use a car, if not in New Orleans proper.
Keep the info coming!

I'd suspect the same too. The UH Alum party is now sold out. Too bad too since we were going to buy tickets today. We ended up going with the other UH Warrior party: www.warriorsrally.com
At least at this one, we're not paying $$$ for four drinks and can drink at our leisure.

Slippahs,
Mahalo for the link!! I think that solves the New Years eve dilema!! I wonder if you can go in & out...I do want to see the gumbo bowl drop in Jackson Square! Hope to see you there...we'll be wearing green! lol.
Actually, look for the whitest (and prettiest!) 19 yr old girl there and that will be our daughter.
