All the more reason to have elite status on at least one carrier or alliance. Also a good reason to have a membership to an airline club. When things go sideways, you have a better chance at being re-accommodated.

Last month every flight I took was full - this includes trans-Atlantic's - which often used to have empty seats because of it being low season. Fuel surcharges on intl flights have been pretty hefty as well this year, and I don't see them coming down anytime soon.

All I have to say is thank god for the AA AAngels between the Admiral's Clubs and Flagship Lounges that have looked after me during irregular operations.
