Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Best way to get a C upgrade...

When I last flew with Emirates a few months ago, a disabled man with wife checked in at the Y-counter and got a upgrade into C.
Well my question, when I checkin with crutches or say I have sprained my ankle etc and I am unable to bend my foot and could not sit in an Y-seat may I get an upgrade on SQ 325 (FRA-SIN)? When I also have a confirmation from my doctor? Opinions...

Assuming you are ticketed, feigning injury will not guarantee you an upgrade.
The best way of getting an upgrade to Business Class on Singapore Airlines is to proceed to the Ticketing Desk at Frankfurt Airport and pay for an upgrade from Economy Class to Business Class.
Alternatively, if you have sufficient frequent flyer miles, you may be able to use those to upgrade as well.
Well my question, when I checkin with crutches or say I have sprained my ankle etc and I am unable to bend my foot and could not sit in an Y-seat Well, if that's the case, you are not medically fit to fly:eek::td:

Did you listen to the entire transaction? Perhaps there is more to the story than what you overheard.

Are you sure they didn't actually have C tickets?
Non-regular fliers sometimes purchase a C ticket for a little extra inflight "luxury". Unless their agent actually tells them, they don't always realise the other perks that come with it - including the separate check-in line. Should be obvious from the signage... but sometimes people just seem to love to queue.

For that matter I sometimes use Y line if it looks to be quicker, even if entitled to use other lines.

kpc refers to people who cannot sit in their seat. If you can't sit in your seat then you can't fly.

If all it takes is a pair a crutches to get an upgrade, I'd bet the SQ check-in counter would look like a hospital ward.

Speaking of upgrading due to "medical condition", abt 10years ago, my friend flew Japan Airlines to Europe. He told the check-in agent that he gets air sick easily and will throw up unless he gets a very comfortable seat - he was upgraded.
But with SQ, I think they will just give you extra air-sick bags !!

As someone who regularly pays for Business Class and First Class seats with either miles or cash money, this nonsense irritates the hell out of me.
I couldn't agree more with the posters who wrote that if your doctor says you have a medical condition that makes it impossible to sit in the seat you purchased, then you shouldn't be flying at all-- at least not in that seat. If you can medically fly in a Business Class seat but not an Economy seat, then buy yourself a Business Class seat or stay home. "I'm on crutches, and I have a note, upgrade me please." What utter garbage.
I also agree with zrs70 that we may not know all the why's and wherefor's of how the elderly gentleman on EK got a Business Class BP.
BTW: I may sound harsh to some. But the OP asked for opinions, and that's mine.
Well said MegatopLover. Few things upset me more than healthy people trying to take advantage of a situation by faking an illness or handicap.
My brother-in-law is in a wheelchair and more often than not when he is flying long haul international is upgraded to C. He has never asked but if there is availability they seem to do it. Interestingly whenever he is travelling with his wife he isn't upgraded (she's able bodied). But that's about where the luxury stops - because he can't walk he can't get to the bathroom and FA's aren't allowed to lift him - so he doesn't chug back too much of the champagne!!

EK also usually has a published list of counter upgrade deals for many airports, and if Y was full maybe they up-sold them. I asked about it SIN-DXB last year and was told it was $300 (USD I think) but J was full from SYD already...
