Other than the pointer threads mentioned in earlier posts, it will be easier to recommend some places that will gear toward your "taste" if you can be much more specific, what you generally like and dislike, budget constraints...etc. Taipei has a lot to offer (Taiwanese food, Dim Sum, Japanese Food, Shabu Shabu,...etc) you just have to know the right places to go.

If you are a bit adventurous, I strongly recommend the Night Markets. It's authentic Taiwanese culture & food. There are a couple in Taipei. Tung-Hwa Night Market is very near the Taipei World Trade Center. Shihlin is much bigger but I haven't visited it after its renovation. Both are conviniently located and accessbile by public transportations. I found a blog (http://www.thingsasian.com/stories-photos/1547) about Taipei Night Markets (some info may be outdated though since it's written in 2001).

If you visit Longshan Temple (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longshan_Temple), get ready for some unique Taiwanese cultural experiences and some good local food a few blocks down the road. Ask around when you get there.

In so many ways, Taipei is a city that never sleeps. I am sure you will enjoy your visit with some good planning. :)
