Korean Air Skypass - How to handle miles for Delta booked Korean Air flight

Hi everyone, I'm about to PCS with the Army to Korea, and DL is our big hub in ATL. I'm pretty much stuck with them for FF because that I grew up in Alabama.

I've already booked my flight, Q fare with Delta. I have booked it under my Skymiles, which haven't appeared yet (of course).

I'm considering signing up with Korean Skypass for the next three years I'm in Korea. That way, I build up miles that can be used for local flights when I go on vacations during my stay in Korea. If I do so, I want to change my upcoming flight to KOrea to grant miles to my future Skypass account.

Questions:
Will the sky miles for my Q fare Delta ticket be applied by Korean Air (if I sign up) under KE rules for Q fare (I think 60%)?

Will it be worth it? I'll earn 7500 miles going over, 14000 during flights home for Christmas.
Thanks

Well if you are booked on Q with DL, you'll get full 100% of mile flown according to KE rule. (you are forbidden from getting miles only if you are booked in R,O,N,E)

Does it worth signing up? - I don't know, it depends. if you sign up with KE FFP, 10000 miles will give you 1 free round trip ticket on any KE domestic FLT. But thats about it.

I would sugest that you sign up with Delta Skymiles instead. Since you'll only be there for about 3 years, think about where you will do most of your traveling. DL serves MOB, MGM, HSV and other Alabama airports as well, KE does not.

Definitely stick with DL as the program to deposit the miles you earn into. I believe it's easier to earn elite status-- and thus bonuses--on DL than KE. Besides, you can claim intra-Asia awards on KE through SkyMiles: Economy tickets are 25,000 for all over Asia, and Prestige awards are 30,000.

Between DL, CO, NW, which is the easiest to redeem for KE to Korea? thanks.

jwfuller: there's another thread in this forum where we've been talking about Skymiles vs. Skypass. You should read though that... Skypass isn't going to do a lot for you and their earnings on those domestic korean flights are very poor if you book a cheap ticket. Stick with DL Skymiles and just try to avoid the booking classes that don't earn miles on KE.
