I was awarded a $1500 MC travel debit card from my company. It can be used for any type of travel (airline, hotel, etc.) but nothing else.
Any ideas on how I can redeem this thing and get some bonus miles out of it?
I must redeem it by February 2008.
I did quite a few searches but haven't found a situation like mine.
Thanks in advance for your input.

"Redeem by" or "complete travel by" ?? big difference. :D
"only travel" ~ meaning, which vendor-name shows up ??
Maybe some fully-refundable tix for a long-future date would do it?
Check the "any hotel - anytime" threads.

It is called an "Applause" card issued by a company called Award Headquarters.
As long as the airline, hotel, car rental etc. accepts Master Card, I can redeem it. I was hoping I could convert the amount into a gift card(s) for future travel and obtain bonus points and miles, as well.

It sounds like a gift card so I would think you could pay for part of your ticket with it and get miles for the flight.

I doubt you're going to get any special bonus miles, points, etc., because the spending is coming off this particular M/C debit card. So you might as well just do your best to convert the card to cash.
I suggest you find somebody you trust who does a lot of business travel who books their own flights, hotels, etc., and just let them spend your card down to $0 and write you a $1,500 check. For them, spending down a debit card is just a different form of payment, and their company shouldn't care about the non-difference. Unencumbered, non-expiring cash in hand is better than a card that expires Feb. 2008.
