Other Car Rental Programs/Partners (ie. Alamo, Enterprise, Sixt) - Enterprise wouldn't add me because of different last name

Renting at a neighborhood Enterprise at my parents in PA with my husband:

The reservation is in his name, so I request to be added as a driver. The agent asks for my license and I give it to her and she tells us that since we don't have the same last name, she can't add me without proof that I'm on his insurance (even though he doesn't have to show proof of his own insurance). She didn't want to see the card until she was adding me, and since his name is only on the card, she didn't want to do it. We called the insurance company so they could tell her I was on it, but she actually told me "you know, if you had the same last name I would have just done it".

I didn't think about it at the time, but that kind of bothers me now.

The strange thing is, just because a man and a woman have the same last name doesn't mean they are spouses. They could be siblings, or completely unrelated. So going solely by the last name proves nothing. There are lots of spouses these days with different last names. It sounds like the CSR is living back in the 50's. I think this merits a letter of complaint to Enterprise Corporate HQ. There is no reason to be treated this way.

That's pretty standard Enterprise procedure. I've learned to circumvent it by simply presenting my insurance card along with my drivers license whenever I use Enterprise. Most of the time they just take a cursory look at the card and hand it back.

Normally I'd do this, but before all this happened, they actually did us a favor. mr. horse glasses had taken his credit cards out of his wallet in an effort to not use them and accidentally forgot to put them back in before we left. They said they couldn't take his debit card because he had an out of state license, but since this is a neighborhood location and we always use it, I talked her into it and she had to check with her boss and they gave us the "we aren't supposed to do this" line. I didn't feel like I should push it after that. I'm afraid if I write a letter, we will get horrible service from now on cause they probably will remember us. I also made a two part reservation for Christmas using different codes and they even said they would arrange it for me so we don't have to return the car then. They are usually so good to us but that whole issue/comment still really bugged me. What do you think?
