What's my chance of getting an upgrade as a Gold on a paid stay right after Xmas and stay til New Year either at Hilton San Francisco or at Hilton Financial District? From various threads, seem like Hilton Financial District is a better choice in terms of amenities due to its recent renovation. How about the executive lounge? Chance of upgrade? Recently stayed at Hilton Toronto on a hotwire rate. No upgrade but given lounge access. What can I expect at either one of these 2 locations? I know upgrade is harder and harder to come by nowadays unless you're Diamonds

I stayed last night at Hilton Financial District, and as a Gold, was given an Executive room and access to the lounge. This was my first stay and when I saw the hotel from the outside I was a little concerned. However, the staff were great, the room very comfortable, and the stay pleasant. The small size of the lounge surprised me; breakfast was very neighborly with many tables in a tight space.

I've stayed at Hilton SFO on Post and have never had access to the lounge. I'm there again on November 29, so I'll let you know if things change.

Agree with you that your chances are better at Hilton Financial District. Good luck!

Main floor of the Hilton San Francisco is undergoing major renovations. The bar, all restaurants and shops on the main floor were boarded up as of a couple ago. The lobby acted as a bar. The place was extremelly busy and packed. Very noisy.

On a "90% full", albeit Friday night 10 days age, was able to talk the front desk into a very nice Junior Suite at the Union Square property...had Exec lounge access as well, though never went there as it was in another tower. Agree that the massive lobby right now is noisy and crowded with the construction.

Your chance is very good, we use to stay at the SF Hilton arriving on the 25th, and stayed for a week, they always gave us a great room.

Anyone care to offer a general comparison of these two properties? How about the Fisherman's Wharf location? I'm looking to use HH points for a two-night stay during a weekend MR next month. Looks like these are the best properties HH has in SF? Was surprised it seems there's no Conrad ...

Looks like these are the best properties HH has in SF? Was surprised it seems there's no Conrad ...IMHO, the Fisherman's Wharf location is a dump. The other two are pretty good. The rooms at the Financial District location are a bit small, but I do like the furnishings on the executive floors. For easy access to BART you're best off at the SF Hilton. The Fisherman's Wharf location is near the end of the line of the Market St. trolley, the "F" line. You could easily transfer from BART to that. I'm not sure what public transit is near the Financial Center location as I just walk from there to Market St. if I stay there.

any word on the NOR1 crap @ the SFO Hilton? I just booked a vacation and thought we could spend 1-2 nights in downtown SFO ... the Financial district Hilton looks nice, but the other one is cheaper ... so I am checking for some recent UG experience for Golds

The Financial Center location is only two blocks (five minutes) away from all cable car lines, it is about 10 minutes downhill from the Bart and it has two bus stops, one for van Ness and one for Fisherman's Wharf in front of the hotel. As mentioned before, the hotel is not the nicest building but has for sure great rooms and great staff. And: The view over the bay is unbeatable.

The Hilton Financial District is a better location in my opinion. The hotel is borders Chinatown and there are a variety of restaurants at reasonable prices just outside the door. Hilton San Francisco is a major convention hotel, located adjacent to the porn district of O'Farrell Street, and there tend to be many more street people in the vicinity of the hotel.

Market Street transportation and Union Square shopping are closer from Hilton San Francisco. The other skyscrapers around this hotel limit the views.

Hilton Financial District has unobstructed views of Coit Tower and Bay from one side of the hotel. The Financial District is pretty dead on weekend, but Chinatown is always going.

I agree with Satori--the Hilton Financial District is the preferred hotel. At the Hilton San Francisco, I got no upgrade, a tired room and a certificate for breakfast. At the Hilton Financial District, I got a room with a great view of Alcatraz and Coit Tower, lounge access and a better location (IMHO).

This Diamond has never seen a suite at the SF Hilton....except when traveling with one of my employees, who was GOLD (he got upgraded to a suite with the same rate I had).
