Next month, for the first time in over 20 years, my husband and I will be visiting New Orleans. (We will be meeting family there over the holidays for a four-day stay.) Being foodies:), we want to try several of the city's more famous restaurants.
I'm looking for recent feedback (last few months or so) on the following old standbys:
Galatoire's
Commander's Palace
Arnaud's
Brennan's
Antoine's
We are also interested in two newer restaurants, August's and the New Orleans Grill (Windsor Court Hotel, where we will be staying) so would like to hear about anyone's recent experiences there too.
Thanks in advance ...

If you get a chance, try Irene's (http://neworleans.citysearch.com/profile/4428854/new_orleans_la/irene_s_cuisine.html).

Galatoire's & Antoine's are best done if you go with a local that is known by the restaurant staff. Don't get me wrong, you can have a nice meal at them if you are not a regular, but it won't be the same. I like these two very much. My preference at Brennan's is brunch, not dinner. You should have a good time at any of the restaurants that you mentioned.
I would not necessarily call The New Orleans Grill a newer restaurant as it has been around for awhile. It is supposed to revert to it's original name, The Grill Room and, thankfully, it has a very competent & talented local chef in charge of the kitchen now. I don't know where they got the last chef, but, let's just say, it didn't work out. Definitely give it a try.
You didn't say whether you wanted to stay downtown & French Quarter, or whether you wanted to venture farther afield, or mention price range. Some additional suggestions:
Emeril's - Warehouse District
NOLA - French Quarter
Stella - French Quarter
Bayona - French Quarter
1179 - near Warehouse District
Cochon - Warehouse District
Martinique - Uptown
Daisy Bistro - Uptown
Clancy's - Uptown
Gautreau's - Uptown
Brigtsen's - Uptown
Iris - Uptown
Ristorante Filippo - Metairie
Ristorante Da Piero - Kenner (5 min. from airport)
Drago's, the one in Metairie
La Provence, on the Northshore in Lacombe
All of these are very good and a little pricey, but IMO, good value for the money. If any of the people that you are visiting live here, let them suggest their favorite places, also.
An amazing fact is that Post-K, we have more restaurants than Pre-K!!!! Some of these new ones are really quite good and I'm quite happy about that.
I hope that you enjoy your visit and Bon Appetit!
Drago's, the one in Metairie
I am curious why you only reccommend the one in Metaire. I have always heard great things about Drago's and was happy to hear they now have a location in town ... planned on hitting it over New Years. As I never have a car when in NOLA, Metaire just isn't a reasonable option.

Sorry, my provincialism is showing.:) As a local, and a native, I just prefer original locations. Also, the OP asked for recent dining experiences and I was at the Metairie location a few weeks ago. With that said, I can't really pass judgment on the Poydras St. location, as I have not eaten there. If you are staying in the downtown area at New Years, then it probably is a good choice.
