Hilton HHonors - Penalties

I am a Silver level w/in the HHonors program. I had to cancel a room in DC last week w/o the customary 24 hour notice. They charged me the full room price as a "penalty".
2 Questions: 1. will I get credited for the $$ in points even though I didn't stay. And 2. Is there some elite level that you reach within the program where these penalties are waived.
Thanks and have a nice day.

1. No points will be awarded when you do not show at the hotel and do not stay. It's part of their T & C.
2. No, elite level will not usually help. However, some people on this board have reported contacting the hotel direct and managed to get them to waive the charge sometimes, so it may be worth a try, especially if you plan to stay there at a future date.

I have missed check in 3 times in the past year due to flight issues. All three times a call to the hotel released me of responsibility. Not saying they will also do it but it can happen. Stress the frequency of hotel stays. Should add that I stay at the Conrad in Singapore often which might be why they let me off the hook.
In my experience, your only chance for waiver of any kind of penalties is to call the hotel directly, not the standard 800 number or call center.

This has been my experience also. A call to the property has never failed to cancel penalty. (I am sure that I will lose some day, but nor so far)

I have had success canceling late through the diamond desk but it was flight related and I was getting a new reservation in another city for later that night because I was able to get out on the flight. I had canceled my reservation about 9pm.
Another time I had to call the hotel directly after I OLCI'd and was stuck in a different city. No penalty for either reservation.

Having flights canceled and having to reschedule everything is never fun -- I've been there done that and have called the hotel *directly I was planning on staying at and have had good luck not being charged for a hotel room I couldn't use because of something that wasn't my fault.

I charge all my guests. This is customary in the hotel business because we hold that room anticipating you to arrive and in the process turn away business. My top 10 corporate accounts are the only ones that are waived of this fee.
I get alot of Diamond members that want the fee waived but the HHonors program is not made to get you out of fees. It gets you points, miles, and upgrades.
I do sympathize with the people that have to pay the fees but unless in our area there are military orders changed or flights canceled beause of verifiable bad weather the charges stand.
I even charge employees that do not show.

It is also customary in the hotel business to overbook. In the past, I have been walked when my flight was several hours late and they sold my room. To add insult to injury, they were already starting to process the no-show charges.
Those who rigidly enforce no-show fees, regardless of circumstance, will find that people will start booking away.

I see no problem with this if they follow consistent no-show fee rules. Of course I would like if they waived any fees for me but it doesnt happen very often.

Thanks for the info. The company is going to pick up the charge anyway. However, in the future I know I need to speak with the property directly to see if there is some wiggle room.

I've had the same experience ---which is one reason I stay at Hiltons. I've started avoiding brand x because they charge $10/day for internet service.

A bit OT but some Hiltons charge for internet service too.
