there is a pretty common in the uk promo rate that allows dinner on the first night and breakfast. My question is the above, more specifically with regard to dinner, could we just use room service and get a credit or must we use the restauaraunt?
Thanks!

You have to use the restaurant, room service dinner is not part of the package.

Dinner in the restaurant is a table d'hôte which may or may not allow for limited choices (one of two soups; one of five main course; one of three desserts). On raee occassions I have seen the hotel offer an allowance towards your bill that will enable you to order a la carte.

I have never seen room service as an option.

I think I recall one Hilton (but unfortunately not which one, though it was not in the UK,) that allowed some credit on the room service bill - but by far most specifically disallow using room service for meal credits or breakfast chits.

If you contact the hotel in advance they will often allow a credit either against room service or against another restaurant in the hotel where there are 2 and you want to eat in the one not usually allowed.

At the park Lane Hilton this summer we stopped on a dinner B&B rate, the evening meal had to be taken in the brasserie across from reception. The choice was from the full menu and have to say it was very good.On checking out the whole meal along with the drinks had been charged. The nice man at reception deducted the whole lot from the bill drinks included.Only problem was the trip was specifically to get over 100k base points for Diamond, however we still just managed it:D

Gateshead (Newcastle) in the UK.
Issue is we going to get there at 9pm after a long journey and will be in no mood to freshen up and then get ready to go down and dine. Of course, for my good lady, this is a major logistical exercise at the best of times...;)

I have stayed there approximately 6 times and never had a problem with switching the day of my inclusive meal to the next day. Actually I have never had a problem with this in any UK Hilton bar the Paddington. It is probably best to call them to see if they could confirm this in advance. The Windows on the Tyne Restaurant is quite popular and tends to be packed on Friday nights especially, so if you are arriving then you may well be doing them a favour by switchng your reservation.

Actually the restaurant at Newcastle/Gateshead is one of my favourites for UK Hiltons (just after the Trafalgar and Trader Vics). We have always had an enjoyable dinner at Windows on the Tyne and dinner there is infinitely better than room service.
