Anybody know the end date for the current 3X points offer with the Hilton AMEX? I can't find where I originally read about it (which had the start/end dates on it)....The statement I just got didn't have any info on it, but did give me 3X points for my charges to the card)...
I'm trying to decide if I should put some big ticket items on the card soon (my recollection was that it ends sometime in November)....if it's not until the end of the month, I'll put property taxes, etc. on the Hilton AMEX..
Any help?

Are you talking about getting 3x the regular points?
Normally you get 5 points/$ for gas, groceries, cell phone and 3 points/$ for all other expenses.
Are you talking about getting 15x and 9x?

Well, I guess it's just stupid me that doesn't know how many points I normally get....I thought I had either gotten an e-mail or a flyer stuffed in with my bill promoting 3X normal points through some date in November - when I got my last statement I saw 3X the number of points I expected for $900 in purchases and figured it was from this promotion (I thought I was only getting 1X on the card)...Maybe I'm thinking of a 2X current USAir promotion..But no, I'm not taslking about 15X and 9X (wish I were)..
What do charges at Hilton family hotels get on the Hilton AMEX card? 5X or 10X?

The standard values are 3x for regular purchases and 5x for selected categories, including HH hotels.
Right now, there's a targeted double points promotion going on that a lot of FT'ers seem to have. 6x for regular purchases, 10x for the selected categories.
I think the other categories are gas, groceries, drugstores, etc. I haven't really paid attention...I figure I'll be pleasantly surprised when my average is a smidge higher than 6 points per dollar for Oct/Nov spending. I'm using HH Amex for everything this month: I value 6 HH more than 1 SPG, and in general I need to stock up a bit on HH...

I believe the offer ends on 11/30/07, with a limit of 20,000 bonus points to be posted 6-8 weeks after that. To put things in prospective, a Hilton stay with a $4000 bill will max out the bonus.

Well, that answers another question....I spent $100 at the local Wal-Mart Supercenter yesterday on groceries wondering if I'd get 300 points or 500 points..guess it's going to be 300 points..
I expect to pay my property taxes with Hilton AMEX if it's accepted. That will bring in 15000 points; would have been nicer to get a multiple of that. If USAir had conversion to HHonors points, it would be better to charge it to that and then convert to HHonors since they're offering double points at the moment. Too bad it's not Citibank & AA offering that..

I have this targetted offer but the extra points aren't showing up on my statement. I spoke with AMEX yesterday and they stated that the bonus points would show up 6 to 8 weeks after the promotion ended.
To be honest I don't trust them. I think they mean the points will show up in my HH account in 6 to 8 weeks but it still should show on my statement.
If anyone else sees their extra points on their statement, please post a reply. I changed credit card numbers in the middle of this promotion and don't want to be screwed outa my points.

Relax, the delay in bonus points is fairly typical. If there is a problem after Feb. call Amex.

I finally found a mailer regarding the promotion I was looking for,,,,Turns out I had part of this correct - there was a targeted promotion that lasted from 10/15 - 11/15/07 that offered 5X points on ALL purchases using the card....additional points to post 10-12 weeks after end of promotion...
Unfortunately, I screwed myself by waiting to pay my property taxes with the card on 11/30...will get 15,000 points for the purchase but lost out on the 10,000 additional points I would have received by doing it before 11/15....oh well.

Interesting that you mention paying your property taxes with the card. Did you have to go through a third party, or does your town accept credit cards for the taxes? I am pretty sure my town does not accept credit card payments. It would be great if it did.

Our old town used a third party service for tax payments:
https://www.officialpayments.com/index.jsp
You could go through the menus to see if your town is listed.
There is a fee based on who you are paying

Oh, and by the way, I wasn't overly happy with the process, it's not real time, you make the payment, get charged, and they send the details to the tax office, how long it takes them to process it is pretty much up to them.
If you need a tax stamp to register a car for example, it's a pain in the butt, as you need to wait for them to process it and mail it out. It was very inefficient and if it was offered where I live now I wouldn't have the confidence to use it.
I know, giving up some miles and all that, but there are times it's just not worth it.

I agree with you. Sometimes the hassle is not worth the points.
The fee is 3%. So by doing a simple calculation, if I were to make a $2000 payment, it would cost an extra $60 and I would get 6000 HHonors points from AMEX.
If I were to buy 6000 points at the Hilton website, it would cost $75.
Overall it's not a very significant gain.
