AAA rating <none yet> . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hilton HHonors Reward Category 3 (25,000 points per night)
Location: slightly tricky, as no GPS mapper or map has included Sunsweet Boulevard as yet. North or southbound of Highway 99, still south of Yuba City downtown, pass Bridge Street northbound (or 1 km / ~7 miles south of Hwy 20 if southbound) you will see a large Geweke (pronounced "give-a-key") auto dealer (hence the oft-mentioned, but unmarked on any map, "Geweke Crossing," an auto mall and shopping centre straddling Hwy 99.) Turn east, you are in Geweke country - turn west, you are on Sunsweet Boulevard, and the Hampton is prominently on your right (north.)
Best situated rooms (barring room type) Rooms 301 or 303.
Room issues: High numbers nearest noisy highway, even numbers on south side (hot! in summer, and some noisy traffic on Sunsweet Blvd.); 134 adjacent to fitness room, 136-8 face swimming pool (not a problem in winter.) First floor can be noisy due to guests entering end doors.
Amenities
Swimming Pool (open air - it's a bit cool for that now) and Whirlpool
Fitness Center (key access, stair stepper, treadmill, cycle, 6 AM - midnight, adjacent to room 134 - good room to avoid)
Business Center (2 computers / 1 printer) and Meeting Room
High Speed Internet Access (Wireless and Ethernet in room)
Wheelchair Accessible rooms
Infant cribs (no charge) on a first-come first-served basis
No pets (assistance animals admitted by state law)
"Suite Shop" (24 hours, water, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, microwaveable pizzas and main meals)
Parking is free on site
Shopping centre and restaurants nearby, municipal offices as well
Nearby restaurants: several fast foods, as well as
* Lucio's (1 block n.e., Southwestern, Mexican, Italian & Californian; delivery $3.50)
* The Refuge
* Chili's
* City Cafe
* Dancing Tomato (I do not make these things up!)
* In & Out Burger
* Saluté Italian Restaurant
On check-in the desk clerk turned out to be the GM - seemed a bit formal and somewhat distant, and seemed to enjoy? the queue she had going (as well as complaining the printer was malfunctioning when she was greeted by a customer.) She insisted on seeing some people's identification, not others, inquired company name of all, had us add automobile model and license (but who else would park here?) and inquired if we wanted Internet access. She handed everyone keycards in a paper holder with room number and Internet access code, and asked if it was our first stay (not specifying property or Hampton,) informing us we had a free breakfast in 6 - 10 a.m. and inquiring if we wanted a wake up call, added names and times to a sheet on the desk. Good to see the GM working a desk... :) But it also occurs to me the occupancy in this brand new hotel is so low this week she was channeling people to the first and second floor? (Mere supposition, but my preference is "high floor, far from elevator.")
At first impressions (including the canvas sign indicating the hotel is open hanging on the building front,) this hotel is brand new, not a spot to be seen. I was issued room 138 on the first (of three) floors, at the eastern end and facing Sunsweet Blvd. As I can hear significant traffic noise here, as well as noise form people using keycards to access end doors, and the swimming pool is outside my window; I would recommend high floor rooms with lower numbers for more distance from both. Summers, I'd further recommend odd-numbered (north-facing) rooms, as it can get quite hot here (think 100F/38C can be considered "mild" in the summer...) But the biggest difference IMO is getting a low-numbered room for distance from the highway, one of California's agricultural arterials with lots of truck traffic.
The room itself, a "Non-smoking King Studio Suite with Sofabed," at an Auto Assoc. rate of USD $125.10 + 10% taxes, is quite spacious for two, in any case, and possible for four. Colors are a cream-brown textured wall, multicolored checked carpet, reddish browns on sofa-bed, drapes and bed skirt - warm and inviting, and well lit with 6 lights total. Not really a suite, not really a studio... but the room size is substantial, with an alcove in the entry hall with wet bar with microwave and substantial mini-fridge, generic coffee (can you say "Coffea canephora?" :p) service and a courtesy bag of Orville Redenbacher microwave popcorn. Directly in is the sofa-bed, double bed size, with a king "Hampton bed" with duvet, lap desk and TV remote, etc. flanked by two lamp-fitted night tables, one with clock radio, other with telephone.
In between are a large desk with (too low for desk) task and arm chair, which can be used for dinner, with Ethernet port, lamp and telephone, with a Fahrenheit thermostat above controlling the below-window air conditioner/ heater. A three-drawer dressed is across from the desk, with a Philips flat screen TV - this means there is really no comfortable place to see watch TV from, as it and the desk are roughly in the long portion of a letter "H", with sofa-bed and bed at the two ends.
The bath is in a small alcove mid-room (near the desk) with a small counter top and sink with adjacent hairdryer and towels for four, flanked by the bath room (tub with Waterpik shower head and bowed shower curtain,) on one side and a closet on the other, with extra blanket, pillows, ironing setup and luggage jack. The bathroom itself is poorly lit, has no place to hang a towel within arm's reach of the shower other than the curtain rod, and the tub / shower stall was improperly cleaned - long and short curly hairs on the wall. :eek:
I am leaving the fan on full time, as it does a decent job of drowning out traffic noises from Highway 99 and occasionally from Sunsweet; they do die out around 10 PM, but next month, I will probably request a room in the 301 - 303 area and see if it makes a difference.
6AM I am at breakfast, promptly, and it is fully set up. Three staffers, including the custodian vacuuming, all welcome me to breakfast; the woman who sets up the breakfast room is very helpful and has a great attitude. ^ Breakfast includes mixed fruit, full-strength juices (too many Hamptons I have bee in water them down a bit,) cereals (including instant oatmeal,) breads (including bagels,) and served hot the usual Hampton UFO-eggs and hot biscuits with a very decent gravy with plenty of meat bits (I can't really explain our enjoyment of these to non-"Murrikin" members.)
Executive summary: Brand new Hampton Inn and Suites, almost spotless and the only Hilton property between Sacramento - Roseville and Red Bluff (Hampton.) A passably decent place, it would appear, for Hilton road warriors or travelers who find themselves in the Yuba City / Marysville area.
