I've searched the boards and have not found any leads on the following. I'm traveling to Indonesia from New York. Looking to stay in Bali and then head to Amanjiwo.
Suggestions for the best routes to Bali or any other airport that involve fewest stops and good business class service and flights to airports nearby Amanjiwo are much appreciated.
I've run a few searches for fares on the web and am surprised to find so few one-stop flight routes.
Thanks for your input.

WELCOME to Flyertalk.
Are you trying to go to Bali(DPS) or Bangkok(BKK) ?
If you are trying to go Bali, then fly SQ (Singapore Airline) or CX (Cathay Pacific Airline)
One stop should be possible at Singapore or Hongkong, and both have decent business class products.
If you are trying to go Bangkok, there is TG(Thai airways) nonstop service, and still good business class.

Denpasar/Bali (DPS) or Jakarta (CGK) are the two largest airports in Indonesia that I'm aware of. Often it's cheaper to fly to SIN or BKK than to fly there direct. There are many low cost options from SIN-DPS/CGK.

Bali, not BKK. My mistake. Trying to plan my honeymoon and was originally traveling to Thailand -- had BKK stuck in my head. Then I saw Amanjiwo and read reviews and feel like its hard to pass up...
Appreciate the tips!

Singapore Air non-stop from EWR ( I think its SQ21) to Singapore and then non-stop to Bali. You then fly Bali to Yogja on Garuda Indonesia and either return back to Bali or Silk Air from Solo City back to Singapore. I just flew 18 hours non-stop in their economy class and it was great with plenty of leg room, great food and service!

SQ is probably the best option in this regard. Other good one stop options are CX via HKG (who also have great business class), JL via NRT is another option as well (though the flights they have NRT-DPS have substandard J class I believe). TG also gives you a one stop option via BKK. Korean Air also fits the bill, flying via ICN. That would be most of the options I think (and gives options with the three major alliances, oneworld, Star or Skyteam) - others out of NYC would have an additional stop along the way somewhere.

Thanks all for the input! I'm going to try and fly through Singapore through either Singapore Air or Cathay (perhaps even with the Amex International Companion ticket -- but I might just want to pay for both to geth the miles.) All the tips were great

All good suggestions up there re routing. I would just note that going through NRT or HKG rather than SIN or BKK would save you some back tracking, but other than a couple of extra hours it is all pretty much the same so just depends on which carrier/alliance you want your miles with.
Within Indonesia, you will have to take a local carrier which is a little dicey. You will be best off flying into and out of Yogyakarta on Garuda which is better than the rest of the bunch. On your way out, if you are going to Singapore you will be best off flying to Jakarta on Garuda rather than back to Bali to avoid backtracking. You can get back onto SQ there and it is a one hour flight up to Sing.
I would recommend spending a day in Yogya as well since you are going all the way to Central Java, and visit Prambanan in addition to Borobudur.
Have a good trip, TJ

I always simply bought a ticket to Singapore when I wanted to go to Indonesia. From there, there are numerous international airlines flying to Indonesia. But then again, I really am obsessed with NWA miles, and doing SIN is my best option for Indo.

Which program are you in? You can do EWR-SIN-DPS on SQ, JFK-ICN-DPS on KE, JFK-HKG-DPS on CX and JFK-BKK-DPS on TG to mention a few.

My two cents :)
It depends on which Alliance you want to earn miles on, what you wish to spend and whether you are using miles.
A. SkyTeam via ICN, GUM; Star Alliance via SIN, BKK, NRT; One World via HKG, SYD
B. Best fares will be via the Pacific onboard UA, JL and CO. The CO flight will be via GUM and only operates twice weekly; but, always see good deals. The JL flights also have good deals; but, low mileage acrual.
C. If you don't care what you spend - SQ - end of discussion
D. If you are redeeming miles. Star Alliance and book either the SQ nonstop to SIN from EWR or if not available for via Europe which will be faster to Bali.
If you get as far as SIN on a good fare, you have a great option in Valuair (Jet Star Asia) to get from SIN to DPS. Great service, very comfortable and very reasonably priced (by far the best price).
Enjoy and PM if you need any fuirther suggestions.
