Budget Travel - Cheapest way to get from Amsterdam to Frankfurt?

Hi All,

I have the opportunity to spend a day in Amsterdam on Nov 29th and need to be in Frankfurt by about 3:00pm on Nov 30th. Any ideas as to the cheapest way to get to Frankfurt on Nov 30th? I've checked out the Eurolines Bus but it doesn't fit my schedule. The high-speed train seems to cost around $150.

Any suggestions (I am a student) for a cheaper way to do it by train (maybe Dutch train within Netherlands and then German train?) or perhaps flights? I haven't really been able to find a one way flight from Amsterdam to Frankfurt considering how close it is.

Thanks a lot,
Jared

Welcome to FlyerTalk Yarhead !

Having said that, I'm locking the thread, because you cross posted this question in the Germany forum, and you are asking us to be your travel agent by seeking specific dates for your travel.

Crossposting is considered a no-no on FT, and asking for finding cheap fares is prohibited per this sticky (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=565617)at the top of the Budget Travel Forum.

Please stick around, take a look at some of the guidelines we follow, and enjoy FlyerTalk.

Upon further inspection, it seems that the fare request in the Germany forum was for a different destination. I am reluctantly reopening this thread because OP is asking for a specific date, which is akin to asking us to be a travel agency. That would of course not be in the spirit of Budget Travel, though I do see that OP has done some of his own research.

I sent this in a PM, but in case anybody else comes across the thread:

Go to http://www.nsinternationaal.nl/bestemmingen/trein-frankfurt.html , enter your travel date, and clear out the second date box. By booking an inflexible ticket in advance, you can get the high-speed train fare down to €39. There may be some cheaper way using LCCs or buses, but €39 is pretty good for that trip and the train is likely to be a lot more pleasant.

It is often possible to get €39 or less advance fares on European high speed rail. Usually the website of the operator in the country where the journey originates is the place to look for these (e.g. bahn.de has discount fares Frankfurt-Amsterdam but for the other way around you have to look on the NS site).
