Hilton HHonors - When does Diamond ability to book sold-out hotel end

As a Diamond, I tried yesterday to book the Hilton Minneapolis and both on-line and per the Diamond desk it was sold out. I was checking more than 48 hours prior to the hotel's check-in time. However the Hilton web-site in describing the privilege says something about your request for reservation has to be "prior to midnight" 48 hours before. Doesn't this make the cut off more like 63 hours (not 48) assuming a 3 p.m. check-in time at the hotel?
By the way, the Diamond desk got me a room at the Marquette even though the website had it sold out.

It is 48 hours prior to the day of arrival BY midnight. By midnight is the keyword, technically its 49 hours+ before your day arrival

There are also times of "exceptional demand" that you cannot get a room, even well before the 48 hour period. We were in IND for the Colts/Pats game last weekend and needed another room for a colleague without status. I used my Diamond status to try to get a room over a week beforehand and didn't have any luck.

If there are an extraordinary demand dates, at the hotel like if a huge group booked a lot of rooms, then you cant use the diamond status. These are rare, even times in a city hosting the Super Bowl, one hotel might have an EDD date, but you will be able to find another that doesn't.

I am thinking there are more then I thought ater seeing this thread. Last night is my first time trying to Diamond Push, and I was told that it is a EDD. I am trying to book for Oct. 17-20th 2008!

What the heck!

!

Google the dates; check to local convention bureau; ask the hotel; and see if you can find out hat is happening. Maybe there is a work around (a day later, or day earlier. etc)

Another possibility is that the rooms for Oct 17-20 may not be loaded in the reservation system.

Last summer the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Resort was taken by one group.

No rooms period.

When I go to Fort Wayne, IN, I usually book my hotel a week or so out. Lately, though, the website shows most of the hotels in the area as 'not available', even for diamond members. In this case, can the DD still get you a room, or are they using the EDD way too often?

I've not bothered with the DD in the past on this, as I either find a Hampton a bit further away or stay at Marriott.

I get rooms every year to the Indy 500, with out an issue. Also Did New years eve in NYC a couple of years ago. I think it is the smaller Hampton inns etc, by a race track wher they are the only one for 50 miles.

For my own clarification: EDD = Extraordinary Demand Date, please correct if I am wrong.

Yup.

I looked at making a booking in Vienna summer 2008 - NOT Hilton property available (not sure if I want to push a Diamond privilege or not, as I am sure the price will be high.

I've had Diamond privilege come through with me a number of times (client wanted me there.) I've seen EDD where one had to contact the hotel directly to book, as they would not even accept a web or central booking reservation, and I've seen conferences or conventions book a property and make it pretty unavailable.

For my own clarification: EDD = Extraordinary Demand Date, please correct if I am wrong.
