China - Shanghai Serviced Apartment 4-5 StarsView Full Version : Shanghai Serviced Apartment 4-5 Stars hua123 Nov 6, 07, 8:09 pm I'm looking for recommendations for 4-5 star serviced apartment in Shanghai that is centrally located. Thanks. unagi1 Nov 6, 07, 8:19 pm Welcome to FT! Where I have stayed is in the serviced apartments at the Shanghai Centre on Nanjing Xi Lu, it is the same complex as the Portman Ritz Carlton. I had a studio, but they have other sizes. There is an East and a West tower. The Ritz Carlton comprises the centre building. The apartment facilities are very clean and well maintained. Good taxi service via the Ritz taxi stand. There is also a self laundry as well, you have to buy tokens at the apartment office. Outstanding location (at least for me), an HSBC bank, Starbucks, several restaurants, a wine bar, and a small supermarket on ground level, as well as a western-style medical facility (which unfortunately I have had to use, but the doctors are US educated FWIW, or at least the ones I dealt with) Walking distance to a couple of major shopping malls, e.g. Plaza 66, as well as a good variety of local and western nightlife as well as local and western foods. I recommend, and would definitely stay on a return trip. moondog Nov 7, 07, 1:53 am Where I have stayed is in the serviced apartments at the Shanghai Centre on Nanjing Xi Lu, it is the same complex as the Portman Ritz Carlton Having lived there before for various stretches over the past decade+, I'm also fond of the Portman because the location is unbeatable (even as the action is moving east). However, I think I'd have a hard time passing up on the Marriott apartments these days. While the location isn't as good IMO (e.g. congested to the max and good luck getting a taxi on a Friday night.... doubly so when it's raining), the furnishings are 3x better and the facilities 10+ years newer. Parrotfish Nov 7, 07, 3:14 am second the marriott tomorrow square. how long do you intend to live there for? if it is for a longer period, 3 months+ may be, you may want to consider some of the more residential-type properties rather than hotel-type. mapu Nov 7, 07, 8:45 am Welcome to FT hua123! Have a look for yourself to compare the two recommended properties: Marriott Executive Apartments - Tomorrow Square, Shanghai (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/shaer-tomorrow-square-shanghai-marriott-executive-apartments/) Shanghai Centre (Portman Ritz Carlton) (http://www.shanghaicentre.com/) These two properties are among, if not the most expensive ones in Shanghai and there are many others to choose from. The Ascott (http://www.the-ascott.com/) is another luxury option. There are a number of real estate agents that specialize in helping foreigners finding accomodation in China. My wife and I used Joanna Real Estate (http://www.joannarealestate.com.cn/) and were quite happy with their service. Grab one of the many expat magazines for more information or check out Shanghai Expat (http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/). |
