Hilton HHonors - You call this a suite? Homewood Lakewood Co trip report

I recently brought my family with me on an extended business trip to Denver. We stayed over the weekend at the Homewood Suites in Boulder without incident. While the place lacked charm (it's behind a mall, that actually has a pretty good Nepalese restaurant), it delivered exactly what I've come to expect from Homewood - a larger than average total space, with a kitchen, and a separate living room and bedroom.

Thus imagine my surprise checking into the Homewood Suites in Lakewood. Upon checking in (after driving by the place since the signage is very difficult to see; it's behind the Wells Fargo building, once again in a parking lot) I was first impressed by the room, it was very new. i was quite surprised; however, to find that the living room and the bedroom were one and the same. In fact, the bathroom sink was also in this room. the whole point of staying at Homewoods and Embassy Suites with my family is that it's great to have that extra room when travelling with a 3 year old. Maybe it's well understood that these Studio Suites don't have two separate rooms (although it doesnt specifically mention that in making the reservation, whereas Embassy Suites reservations is explicit about this fact), but I was caught unawares (even though I'm one stay away from Diamond and stay in these places quite a bit).

Overall this hotel is not fully up to speed. My business travelling companion's shower didnt work in his room; he had to shower downstairs in the janirot's closet by the pool. His brother in law is a quality inspector for Hilton so I suspect he'll get his revenge

While I can understand your frustration, the definition of studio is single-room. I've always wondered about the "studio suite" oxymoron.

They are fairly clear in their room descriptions that they offer studio and two room suites, studio is one room for all.

I agree their are a couple of times that is all I saw adn was not sure to stay at Homewood or get another hotel. In hindsight another hotel would have been better.

If youre going to go to another hotel just because Homewoods offer studio suites, thats silly. There are even Embassy Suites properties out there that have studio suites and regular hotel rooms. Anybody that travels frequently, knows that the term "suite" is always used very loosely. "Suite" doesnt necessarily mean seperate rooms for the bedroom and living room. Comfort Suites, Amerisuites/Hyatt Place, Fairfield Inn and Suites, etc. all claim they have suites (or are even all suites), when in fact their rooms are just one large room.

How come you didn't request an upgrade to a real 1-bedroom after you saw that what you were getting was a studio unit? Or pay the difference if they would not do that? Picking a random date later in the month, it was a $10 difference in rate between studio and 1-bedroom...If they weren't full, they could have moved you to a 1-bedroom..

Over about the past year I've been upgraded (without asking) at Marriott as just a Silver member from a studio to 1-bedroom at Residence Inn, twice from studio to 2-bedroom at Marriott Towneplace Suites, and once at Homewood Suites (The Philadelphia City Line location) to 2 adjoining studio suites (on a reward stay) -- not sure why they did that since it was 2 identical adjoining studios and it was just me travelling...I guess I could have used one room as my living room & the other as my bedroom...

No need tp pay for this ridiculousness. I believe HS has the 100% Guarantee so the showerless room should of been free if reported at the time . FWIW on the studio vs suite conundrum, if you dont like the room(s) upon first entering, call or go to the FD and request a room change. Most of the time it will occur without an extra payment.

By all rights if you dont like a room, request a room change but remember you might just get another studio suite. If you want something other than a studio, than book a different room type. Remember that also room upgrades while they do occur at most HS properties are not an established HHonors VIP benefit at HS.
