First, Happy New Year to all!!!
I've got a friend who is not much of a web-ster, and has asked me to purchase some tickets for her upcoming travel. I've located some flights and am ready to book, but really want to earn some miles for the transaction if possible.
I'm just wondering, aside from CC miles, are there any other ways to earn miles for booking someone else's air travel?
All I can find is a "generous" 300pt MyPoints offer for UAL bookings.
Any ideas?
Thanks to all!

www.destina.ca (http://www.destina.ca) let you earn Aeroplan miles on all bookings made on the page, including air, hotel and cars
www.reisi.net (http://www.reisi.net) is an Estonian travel agency which let you have about 3% commission on all bookings made. You can then use those points to buy free tickets on reisi.net

Totally off your topic, make sure before you book the tickets it's at a site that allows you to purchase tickets for others.
Some sites are requiring thte purchaser to be a passenger.

To get the miles in most (maybe all) FF plans, you have to be the FLYER. They really do not care who pays or books it. Otherwise, the corporation would be getting all the miles for corporate travel. They have tried, but NO WAY.
Others will give you some miles, but it is really based on either the $$ value, which is the same as buying something at Sears. YOu spend $800, you get 800 miles.
Or, they have some other plan, many of which are a rip off. You know those credit cards that offer miles to fly ANY AIRLINE. Yea, right. First, you must book through THEIR agency. Then you are usually restricted to the amount you can use towards the ticket. Some do it in $100 increments, and they keep the change. Others charge a service fee for each ticket you redeem. Sounds good in their ad, but a real rip off.

you might get some by having her enrol in the relevant airline's FF scheme.
For example United has sent out some member referal cards - if you sign someone up to Mileage Plus and they fly before 31st March you each get a 5000 mile bonus.....

A friend of mine bought cockroach tickets for his Mother and Father on-line. His parents don't travel much and are not enrolled in any programs. Long story short is that he popped his account number in and received flight miles for both flights.

When my father travels on Amtrak, I use my rewards acct number and get credit for his travels...

I am not buying this. Are you saying that his FF account shows he flew from city A to B and back, TWICE on each day?
I doubt it.

I didn't believe it at first, but the segments/miles did indeed post. To make it it even more interesting, he was flying the same day on the return. I think that buying the tickets on-line is the wildcard that allowed this to occur.
Also, the buyer has the same last name as the flyers.
I am getting ready to try this for my Mom.

Some airlines check only that the passenger's last name matches the one on the FF account. Some check last name and first initial. Some limit more than one credit for any single flight segment. Some limit the number of segments credited per day without having to call in for manual posting.
Most probably reserve the right to cancel an account if they catch you doing something like you describe. What you can get away with in practice without getting caught is going to vary wildly by carrier.
I purchased tickets on the Continental website some time ago for my sister and entered my ff number, I earned miles in my account for her flight. On the UAL site, I often purchase tickets for others and I receive the website bonus, oddly enough.

I've gotten and given miles to my father on several occasions (same first/last names). Indeed, TWA transfered his old Aviators account to mine!
