MilesBuzz! - Switching to AA

Brit seeks advice.
Platinum with CO for last 4 years. Now want to switch to AA to clock up miles on my BA account as returning home in 2004. How easy is it to switch to similar status on AA and how should I go about this?

I'm confused. Switching to AA's program(me) won't put anything in your BA account. You'd have to switch to BA's program for that. Once you do, AA flights (other than trans-Atlantic) will give you BA credit.
