Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - American Express Reward Miles and Cathay Pacific

I will be traveling to Asia and I wanted to know the best way to convert 10 zillion AMEX Reward Miles into Cathay Pacific for either a seat upgrade to First / Business or into a status upgrade. Any ideas? I do not mind thinking outside the box .... : )

You can convert from AMEX rewards to SPG (losing 2/3 of the points) then to Asia Miles (gaining back some bonus points). Catches:
* It will take a long time for the transfers.
* There are limitations on the amount of the transfer.
* There is no status upgrade.
* Worst of all, if you plan a long-haul F/J award without a MPC elite status, it will be very, very difficult.
