Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Waiting list for flights - "Skipping" possible?

I am kicking myself; I was in J for CX882 to LA scheduled this weekend (leaves at 4:15), but canceled it stupidly because I figured I'd like the night flight better (CX880 at 11:30pm). I then found out I needed the earlier flight after-all, but J was full when I tried to rebook. I'm on the waiting list, but I'm only Silver (another thing I'm kicking myself for, not asking for at least a Silver status match when I started CX. . .I started MPC during May and had to work up to Silver, got reset, I should have just made Gold but the miles haven't hit yet).
Anyhow, here's the deal: I don't want to do Y (still open) and F has a few seats left. I called and asked for an awards upgrade to F from J; I figured the awards seats were gone (they were), but thought it might be a clever way to "skip" the J waitlist. J is oversold, one kind reservationist told me the wait list was 10 pax long and included GO and DM members (aka, I'm low man on the totem pole). Would CX possibly take my $$ and put me in F using Asia miles over someone just waiting for J in front of me? Also, does it hurt me that I'm also booked on the later flight in J (aka, CX sees they're going to get my $$ anyway and ignores it)?
Thx

I've never been successful in asking the CSO how long the waitlist was. They tell me every time that they couldn't see how long it was. How did you do this?

Maybe, but I guess CX won't unless the F load is light. i.e. You are going to wait until much close to departure.

Don't think so.
When are you flying anyway?

I agree with kchika. I am surprised the CSO could tell you. The waitlist is a prioritised queue, by fare buckets and by status. You can drop in the waitlist if another GO or DM join the queue.
Which fare (JCDI) are you waitlisted on? According to EF, there should be J and C available this Saturday on 882. Do you mean traveling on Friday?

Also surprised that the CSO would tell you - is it the MP agents or the Reservations agent?
I feel that your best strategy is just to keep wait listing, but also go to the airport to standby. Maybe you can also check out CX885?

Thanks much, I'll try standby.
They tried really hard not to tell me, but I just kept joking with them. MPC couldn't tell - I don't believe they actually can see it - but the reservations people can. They told me 11 pax on the list (but not where I was on the list) after we chatted for maybe 10-15 minutes. . .I kept pressing for how many GOs and DMs there were but they wouldn't reveal that, only to say there were a "few other" frequent fliers in the queue too.
I'm in J (not C), but on Friday the 26th. I wish I could do CX885 but I'm flying back from PEK that morning. I'll wait and see and crossing my fingers I'm not stuck in Y. . .although I think I'd prefer Y on the early flight than J later.
Finally, just checked my MPC account and saw some miles hit that had been outstanding so I'm over 60k now but still not GO, in that processing period deadtime. Hopefully that can bump me up on the waitlist. When I go over 120k for this year any chance I can just get moved up to DM instead of having to keep working up the ladder (as it stands now, I'll have to go another 120k before DM)?

You need another 120K after becoming GO.

If you just reach 60K Club Miles, it will take a few (2-3) days to show the upgrade to Gold.

Yea I figured no luck. Just so painful - I do all my flights on CX or KA metal unless it's impossible, I was just an idiot and didn't ask for even a SL status match when I started in mid-May (I am finally GO now). I usually do KA once or twice a week, plus on average 1-2 long hauls per moth on CX. It sounds trite but I don't feel like waiting for DM, I'm practically living at HKG airport and on CX/KA planes. My water got cut off at my HK apt because the water company figured I didn't live there anymore. Four times in the past two weeks (the four total days I've been in HKG) I've just showered at HKG airport in CX lounges, not because of transfers but because my water got cut off. I actually haven't showered in my own HKG apartment since September. The hard part is my usual flight is Y on HKG-PEK, which is 1237 miles, DM the "hard" way if you can call it that. I do J - not F - on long hauls. I figure I'll be DM within 6-8 months at this pace. . .I must say despite my complaining, (those of us who live in HKG) have it quite lucky with CX, the Airport Express and great HKG airport, still I wish I could find a faster route to DM than having to fly 210,000+ miles. It has to be obvious to CX I'm a decent customer now, despite not buying F fares.
