Hi all,
Quite a few inflight service enhancements scheduled to start on 28th October. Here's the rundown.
Premium Classes
* Change premium lavatory products to Pacifica products
* Inclusion of scented luggage sachet and lipbalm in amenity kits
* Pre-lunch/dinner drink service: cassava crisps replaced with antipasto selection served with nuts (BP only)
* 'Dinner' flight now defined as 2130 or earlier departure. Supper 2130 or later. (Dinner has light choice item, supper includes fast dine soup option and has only one dessert choice) NZ38 LHR-HKG will continue to be a supper service due to long ground time prior to takeoff.
* Cheese/fruit plate now combined to offer cheese and fruit, cheese varieties increased to 3, and cracker selection increased. (BP only)
* Premium bakery selection generally enhanced - better type of garlic bread, Vogels available on ex-AKL flights, brioche-style white toast, fruit toast, muffins. Fast Dine breakfast item ex-AKL now a heated bagel with cream cheese and jam.
* Increased variety of inflight snacks available
* L&P available!
Economy Class
* Trialling choice of breakfast for LAX/SFO/YVR-AKL services (until now just the one choice, a cheese omlette). The second choice will be a fresh fruit platter.
* Breakfast tray will now include fresh fruit bowl
* AKL-PER second meal now includes fresh fruit bowl
* Yoghurt brand upgraded to Fresh and Fruity ex-AKL
* Salad dressing brand upgraded to Honeylands
* L&P available!

Usually when I see the word "enhancement" I get worried.
However, these all look to be good enhancements :)
Thanks for the update

Well, well, well.... Will check this on my way to NAN, AKL and HKG:)
Yum, Fresh 'n Fruity! :) Not a fan of the watery yoghurt other airlines serve...

Thanks for the update! I'm flying NZ2 out of AKL on 8th Dec and am looking forward to the new food items.
I liked the Living Nature products, but noticed that one of the wash creams always seemed to gunk up the pump nozzle and leak all over the washroom counter. Will be interesting to compare with the new products.

Two questions for those in the know, and thanks nz_crew for the info!
Are amenity kits distributed on trans-Tasman flights (e.g. AKL-RAR or AKL-MEL) or only on the long-haul flights (>6 hours)?
Can someone explain what L&P is? I guess I'm just slow... :)

From my experience Trans Tasman no amenity kit...you really do not need one. Exception may be AKL-PER.
L&P is a soft drink (soda) which as the bottle says "World Famous in New Zealand":D Like a lemonade/lemon squash.

I am flying Oct 28th to ORD via LAX so will look forward to the enhancements.
L & P stands for lemon and Paeroa, New Zealands famous soft drink. It was invented in 1904 after its maker tasted some mineral water near the town of Paeroa, and mixed it with lemon to make a particularly refreshing drink. L & P was originally called Paeroa and Lemon, though the name was later reversed, and then shorted to L & P. This drink is still popular throughout New Zealand today.

Its the best thing to ever come out of NZ and one of the best soft drinks that you can buy and taste!!!!!! :D
God hadnt had it for a long time untill we went to NZ in July and then missed it again and got some sent up from a shop in Perth, 5x24 packs lol.
I love the stuff!

Anyone know the reasoning behind the switch from Living Nature to Pacifica products? It doesn't seem very long ago that the Living Nature products were introduced - personally I liked them. I'm not familiar with the Pacifica products but their packaging looks pretty tacky, completely at odds with the quite slick and minimalist design elements throughout the rest of the business premier service. They just look like they'll be out of place :td:

Correct AKL-PER vv gets amenity kit in business class.

Thanks all - looking forward to trying the highly-touted L&P in a week or so!
Too bad about the amenity kits - I realize the flights are only 4 hours to RAR, but would have been nice to add one more to my collection. Maybe I'll ask the F/A and see if they have some left over from the earlier/later flight (believe the 763 to RAR continues on to US and the 772 from RAR comes from the US, but I could be mistaken).

There is a weekly 767 service that goes AKL-RAR-LAX-RAR-AKL
Theres sevral flights a week that just go AKL-RAR-AKL useing 763/772/A320

I miss the separate fruit and cheese platters available back a few years ago in business, could get a nice plate of both, with a selection you could choose from. It certainly seems like a nice advancement in BP although I'll miss Living Nature products as I always found them quite refreshing personally (though recognise some of that is a matter of taste).
My main complaint about the bread is that sometimes it comes out cold, my girlfriend has had this a couple of times - it seems a small point but when you pay for the front end you want it to be consistent quality. In fact her biggest complaint about NZ is consistency, she has had some of the best and worst flights ever on NZ and it is entirely due to staff attitude and willingness to be helpful.
I recently flew Austrian between Europe and Asia in business and while its seats and IFE were not a patch on NZ, the effort gone into food was extraordinary, easily the best C class food I have ever had. While this was obviously expensive (dedicated on board chef on a 767), there were some great touches like different coffees and antipasto trolley with an enormous selection.
On another note, my father just flew NZ longhaul for the very first time ever (he's a QF Gold FF) in PE and found everything was wonderful, except the seats for AKL-LHR seemed hard after all that time.
