Can anyone give me a first-hand review of the BW Mostyn near Marble Arch in London? The nearby Hyatt has gotten too pricey for me, but London hotels lower than 5-star can be a dicey proposition.;)

The nearby Hyatt has gotten too pricey for me, but London hotels lower than 5-star can be a dicey proposition.;) There are 71 reviews at http://www.tripadvisor.com/ for you to digest. The typical rule at that site is to throw out the very best (in case it's by the hotel itself) and the very worst (in case it's by the competition), and pay attention to the type of person posting. (For example, there'll be reviews by people who had problems with reservations they made, but those are invariably reservations made through consolidators or other third party sites, not at the hotel's or hotel chain's own website.) While there are a lot of people who stay at a lot of Hyatts on FT, there are very few people on FT who seem to have tried a wide number of BW properties (in part because there are about 100 to 1000 times more BW properties than Hyatt properties worldwide, in part because like you many FTers only use BW as a "backup" chain). Thus with BW I'd say TripAdvisor is a better bet (you can of course still ask at FT, but chances are you won't find anyone who's stayed at the particular BW you're interested in here). And (new there this year) at TripAdvisor you can now send messages to some (many?) reviewers, if there's a member name showing next to the review (and if you've registered at the site). mdusry Oct 31, 07, 1:46 pm Many thanks; I completely forgot about tripadvisor. daph Nov 6, 07, 5:45 pm We have stayed in a few BWs in Paris and Italy but have physically visited the lobbies, not rooms, of BWs in London and none of them seem at all charming or well located. |
