Flying to HKG and BOM from LAS for leisure (Y) in November.
I'm AA PLAT with 150,00 AAdvantage miles and CX Green with 40,000 miles.
My plan was to fly LAS-LAX-HKG-BOM-HKG-LAX-LAS and try to upgrade to J LAX-HKG (I'm sure I'll sleep like a baby in Y on the way back).
I definetely want to FLY OW so I can reach Platinum this year (at 30,000 year-to-date).

1)Any ideas on where to find good fares apart from the usual suspects like the websites?
2)I understand the BOM-HKG leaves at an ungodly hour so any other OW options?
3)Any advantage to fly via YVR or San Fran instead of LAX?
4)Anything else I'm missing?

Thx!

1.) www.zuji.com
2.) Not sure
3.) YVR a bit far, SFO might be a bit better. However at SFO, BA lounge is a tad small, short on amenities and usually crowded before CX flights. Still an easier connection than LAX, but only two flights daily from SFO on CX instead of three from LAX. Not sure what time you're looking to head out but it could hinge on that.
4.) If you're truly looking for the cheapest flight, and aren't completely tied to OW, you may check the SQ leg from SFO to HKG - I'm a dedicated CX guy, but the equipment is just plain superior on SQ and I have found Y fares can often be in the neighborhood of $100-$400 cheaper than CX or UA (the two competitors) for that route. Also if you're doing Y, SQ has AVOD in all classes - however on CX, you'll only get AVOD in Y if you're in the CX new configuration, and looking on other posts on this site it doesn't look like that equipment is going to/from SFO, although others correct me if I'm wrong. You will get it on the JFK-YVR-HKG route because I think that's the new config. Regardless, on old CX equipment AVOD is only for J and F.

2) Nope - no other OW options between BOM and HKG... the closest thing I can suggest is DEL-HKG if you happen to be around the northern part of India on your way out... This flight is non-stop, as opposed to BOM-HKG which stops in BKK, but iirc, leaves at an ungodly hour too... another option from DEL in that general direction (eastwards) is JAL to NRT if that fits into your OW schedule somehow...

if you do take the flight out of BOM, remember to book your hotel accordingly - it can be quite a pain to checkout and not have a room until really late that night
