Travel Technology - Recording HD terrestrial television easily?

I recently cut the cord on satellite TV and am trying to adapt to life with just over the air reception. One thing I haven't been able to figure out as I wean myself off of my Dish Network dual tuner HD DVR is a simple and easy (and inexpensive) solution to record a few shows a week, hopefully in HD, ideally without involving my PC or laptop (my desktop is a few years old and severely underpowered and my laptop is kept too busy with other uses).

Both of my main TV's are HD ready with HDMI inputs. I've googled like crazy for a standalone DVR that doesn't require TIVO or some other subscription but yet to find any perfect solutions, any suggestions? I could of sworn I read about an open source DVR out there at some point, but can't find anything about it now.

There's no easy way around this problem - Likely the easiest solution is to buy/build a basic computer-based PVR (personal video recorder) and install a OTA (over-the-air) HD tuner like this:

The link is part of this bigger article about building a PVR:

The machine they build is likely overkill, but lots of good suggestions there (i.e. video card that has HD output etc.)
