I'm going to be ditching my car and going carless (bike, bus, walk, flexcar) but will some times need a car for a few days and will then rent. I suspect I'll rent 10-20 days per year for this purpose plus another 10 or so when traveling. I'm trying to figure out what company would be best for me if I were to focus on one. As is, I'd just pick one of the ones allied with alaska air (alamo, avis, budget, dollar, hertz, national, thrifty) based on price and throw the miles earned into alaska's account, however I suspect that I might find sticking to a single company and their rewards program might serve me better.
I will primarily rent in seattle, though I ask this now as I have 6 days in tampa coming up. Having access to rent other than seatac is necessary... and i'm not too concerned with the higher end rentals - most likely i'd get intermediate level sedans or if need be an SUV to get in the mountains.
Any thoughts on what would work best, will result in the best reward-wise (free days, upgrades, etc)? Also best rates and how well it works with insurance. I have no affinity and have always just gone off of price in the past. I also don't care about navigation/XM/other such things, if it matters (though I don't mind them).
