Have anyone check in a carton box as a checked luggage with CX before?
I have a floor lamp packed in a carton box that I would like to bring it to HK from YYZ. It is roughly 38"x12"x9". Will CX accept this? It is not clear on CX.com:confused:
Just like to know any first hand experience (boxes luggage) before I call CX:)
Thanks!
Cartons are fine. I've checked in a rice cooker in the original box before. They should put a fragile sticker on it though.
Keep in mind you are coming from Nth America, therefore you can only check in 2 pieces, and there is a size limitation on the pieces. Not sure what those limits are.

The only box that CX provided is 22" x 14" x 9" (with Cathay Pacific name in-printed) & is available at HKG & TPE, others such as SFO, LAX, & JFK didn't offer that boxes at the check-in counter.
Can your floor lamp break it into 2 pieces? Or you may ask CX to provide you 2 boxes in order to fit it in...

Several years ago, at HKG F check in counter,
I got an box of approx. 80" x 5" x 5" (CX name printed).
I often take bicycles in cardboard boxes. Never an issue as long as the weight is less than 32kg.

Once, at SYD CX First-class check-in, I saw a man check a small bag of groceries. Not only was it accepted as hold-baggage (naturally, with its handles tied in a knot), but it was labeled with priority bag tags.
So, to add to the affimative chorus, based on this comparative, if not identical experience, yes, a cardboard box should be fine. Quite frankly, just plain-old bubble wrap might even get more gentle treatment for the lamp, as its fragility will be impossible to miss...
