Travel Technology - third-party extended warranty for laptop

I just bought an expensive new laptop (17" Sony AR series) but unfortunately it only comes with a one-year warranty and doesn't sell (I bought it in Europe) with worldwide warranty. Seeing as I spent 10 months of the year outside Europe this won't work.

Has anyone here ever found a good third-party extended warranty?

I know most are really bad and not worth the money, but here's for hoping...

Thanks!

Did you use a credit card to purchase it? If so, (at least in the states) they generally double the warranty of your laptop to a maximum of two years. I got a Toshiba at Best Buy and about a year and a half later it died. But since we used a credit card on the purchase, it was under that warranty still, and after getting several quotes on repair costs, and several phone calls to the agency, we got back a check to cover the "repairs", in the amount of $1050. So credit card warranties do work, but are not exactly easy. Thankfully I got a new laptop out of the deal for only $200!

Thanks for that tip. Unfortunately mine (Amex Plat, Holland) does not...

It's amazing - Sony sell these US$4000 laptops with no international warranty available beyond 12 months...

I don't have a recommendation for the third party extended warranty but you might be able to call Sony Style 1 877 865 7669 and buy one from them.

Nothing special though. I have a SZ270P bought from Sony Style and the extended warranty is totally separate from the original warranty. No integration whatsoever, different toll free number, different policies. Finger pointing for a problem that traversed the original and extended periods, worthless , outsourced on-site repair person who had never seen an SZ270 and couldn't put it back together so I had to mail it in, etc.

I dont recommend any aftermarket warranties...they are mindnumbingly ignorant and irritatingly inept technicians
