Women Travelers - need help with scaly skin

hi,
its my first time posting to the women forum so please be kind.
i realised that the travel experience has left my hands a bit dry where at the knuckle area, the skin looks like a snake skin, not yet rough. Is there any cure that you women would know that can remedy the situation?
I tried paraffin wax cream but it doesn't work. shea butter cream doesn't give a quick fix either.
if the mod feels this thread belongs somewhere else, please let me know.
thank you

To really moisturize, I use Udder Cream or Curel Intensive (http://www.curel.com/intensive.asp)lotion, and apply it right at bedtime. I really layer it on, and then slip on cotton gloves, or even cotton socks. I sleep with those on my hands.

kipper's tip of lotion then cotton gloves before bed is a good one. Other things I make sure to do when my hands are getting scaly/cracked are to use some sort of exfoliating scrub on them before I slather on the cream, and to make sure I use rubber gloves when washing dishes and doing other housework (I find very hot water can make things worse).

Ask your dermatologist about lacHydrin. Mine loves it herself, it's an alpha hydroxy with higher content than over the counter. Essentially an defoliant and leaves the skin with no rough patches. My dermatologist uses it after a shower and just puts it all over her skin. She then uses a sunblock - great skin
I've been using for several years, especially helps during winter when my skin would get very dried out and itchy - no more of this problem
I will second LacHydrin. You need a prescription for it. Make sure it's LacHydrin 12%.

If you can't get a prescription easily, just try a 1% hydrocortisone cream available at any drugstore.

One product I love from Australia, is DU'IT heel balm. Can also be used for hands, fingertips, cuticles, etc. It softens and exfoliates. I think they now have a DU'IT hand lotion, as they've expanded the line. It's wonderful!
I too like Lac Hydrin. Amlactin is very similar to Lac Hydrin but over the counter in the US.

The "quick fix" expectation might be part of the difficulty. I really find it most useful to stay ahead of the dryness rather than heal it when my hands get really bad.
I apply 100% shea butter to my "scaly areas" morning (after my shower) and night (before bedtime) from September to April. I also minimize hand washing (no, I am not unhygenic, but I use medical disposable gloves ^ :cool:That wouldn't necessarily work on a plane.

Vaseline Intensive Care does the trick for me!

Have you tried a moisturiser infused with Tea Tree oil? I find it works, as it really penetrates the skin, and usually has a non-greasy feel.
Other than that, sea-bathing is a great thing for upset skin; a rather basic cure but one that works as the salt is a natural antiseptic.

Have you tried Aquaphor healing ointment by Eucerin? It's meant for cracked, peeling skin and is natural enough for baby diaper rashes but many women swear by it for their scaly, flaky skin.
