hi - i am going to lv next month for a conference at the lv conv center - it seems the conv center is quite far from the strip. i was thinking of staying at the hilton resort at the conv center so i am close - it says a 5 minute walk to the tram to the strip - does this strategy make sense?

if it matters, i am plat on priorityclub, gold spg and gold hilton.

only thought on staying at the strip is that's where the action is - and maybe i can get a better room.

thanks!

Gee, I guess if you're attending a convention at the L.V.C.C., staying at the Hilton makes perfect sense. You may want to make reservations fairly soon, wherever you decide, as mid November is a busy time in L.V.: and reservations are typically always changeable/cancellable at least 72 hours prior to check-in, so it's pretty low-risk, should you change your mind. You've got the monorail right there too. Hopefully others others will chime in with their thoughts.

Have a great time!

Hi allen074, as indicated by kaukau, since you are HH Gold you can stay at the HIlton and have the monorail take you to the strip. There will be a bit of walking since the monorail drops off at the rear of the casinos.

Another option, since you are SPG Gold, is to stay on the strip at Planet Hollywood and take the monorail to the convention center. From Planet Hollywood you'll need to walk next door to Paris casino to hop on the monorail.

More monorail info here: http://www.lvmonorail.com/

Enjoy your stay.

just to clarify - what i priced was the hilton grand vacation at the lv hilton - not the hilton itself - the hilton is $209 cheapest, the grand vacation is $110 and is a full suite.

the planet hollywood is $200 also :( but that looked pretty sweet :)

thanks everyone

Can you get Hilton GrandVacation at the Flamingo.
That way you would be centre strip but with easy access to the monorail.

that works for being somewhat near convention center but it's a lot more fun staying on the strip! I love The Hotel at the Mandalay but it's far for your convention!

Well if you stay at the MGM Grand for example then the monorail is INSIDE the hotel, there is a stop at the convension centers.

if your problem is getting to the conv. centers on time then just take a hotel that you can access the monorail quickly.

Have you considered staying at the Signature at MGM Grand? I was planning a trip to Vegas and someone on this board recommened that place to me. I just returned and I am quite thrilled about their recommendation. The Signature is incredible and is ranked as the #1 property in Vegas by TripAdvisor http://las-vegas-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g45963-Las_Vegas_Nevada-Hotels.html

You can get to the Monorail easily from the Signature. Instead of booking directly with the Signature, you might consider booking directly through one of the owners. You can usually find many of the suites offered for rental at this website www.vrbo.com Many of the owners will rent directly to you at a 20% discount off the rate you would charged if you booked directly with the Signature. Some owners will even throw in the cost of the maid service. I stayed there recently and got a one bedroom suite for $165 a night and the owner included maid service in the cost. The suites are amazing, among the best I've stayed at anywhere in the world. The suite was more like a condo than a hotel room. It had a full kitchen with high-end appliances like SubZero and Bosch; living room, 2 bathrooms, nice flat=screen tvs, including one in the bathroom so you can watch the game from the jacuzzi, and best of all, a balcony (not many properties in Vegas have balconies). After staying here, I can't even consider staying in a mere hotel room in Vegas anymore, not even if it's the Venetian or Bellagio. Why stay in only a room when for the same money or even less, you can get a whole condo?

I would stay where the convention is ie the Hilton and monorail or taxi to go "where the action is" after your working day is over.

This is the best advice. Nothing worse than waking up with a LV hangover and having to taxi to the convention center. Far better to sleep in and walk over from the Hilton.

I always try to stay next to the convention center or at the very least, in the nearest strip property. Driving over only takes a few minutes but if it's a large convention with people from california attending parking can be a nightmare and if everyone is out of town, getting a cab will take a while. The convention center is fairly sparse when it comes to amenities, as is the surrounding area, so be sure to pick up any must have food or beverage items before hand.
