Other Car Rental Programs/Partners (ie. Alamo, Enterprise, Sixt) - Enterprise claim of retroactive damage

I just returned a car to Enterprise (I normally use National, but they didn't honor my reservation, which is another story...). I declined their hard sell on insurance, even though I don't have car insurance, since I was using an Amex card to pay for the rental. I had a rental car that was hit while parked a few years ago, and Amex took care of it without trouble once I managed to get them the police report.

About an hour after I dropped off the car they called me up and said that they had just noticed that there is some damage to one of the rims. I didn't hit anything, and didn't notice any damage when I returned it. More to the point, neither did they.

I'll go down and see the car in a week or so, since I'm on travel. But I'm not much inclined to accept responsibility for this. After all, who knows what happened in the time after I dropped the car off? I suspect they are hoping to get Amex/yours truly to pay for repairs, but since they took the car back and found no damage at the time, my guess is they are out of luck.

Anyway, if they ask me to sign anything I will mention that a close relative is a lawyer (which is true). As other posters have stated, it's unlikely that they could actually make any claim of damag stick given that they signed off on the car being in good condition when returned.
