American Express Membership Rewards - Amex Gold and Greeen Charge Cards

I don't know how new this is, but I was speaking with the customer care department here in the UK today and was told that they've started offering the above charge cards free of an annual fee to all customers spending over £5,000 per annum. Apparently this is will appear automatically on customers' statements when they reach the £5,000 threshold. The rep on the phone specified that this does not apply to the Platinum Charge card.

Does anyone else know about this?
