American Express Membership Rewards - Best way to get UA points?

I was thinking of going to Brussels on points, but noticed that UA only gives me half a United mile for each *wood point. Is there a better way to transfer to UA? (I also have MR points.)

Transfer to another Star Alliance partner and redeem for travel on United? SPG and MR both transfer to Aeroplan, ANA, and Singapore.

Since USair is a star alliance partner too, could I book through them or do they not let you do competitive flights?

You could transfer to US Air from Starwood but not from Membership Rewards. Someone else will be better able to advise you on the mileage requirements and award availability for the various Star Alliance partners. If you search this forum for "United" or "Star" you should find previous discussions, but I believe both Aeroplan and ANA have partner award availability information online.
