Am Ex sent me this offer to join a food and wine connoisseur club. If I join for free, for six months, I get $100 gift certificate. But, they want me to charge $2.99 to my card up front. I am very suspect of this. Is some one phishing for my numbers? I am also going to ask AmEx about the offer.
Has anyone else gotten this offer and used it?
If it is legit, is it a worthwhile offer? They do not say what restaurants I can use it at.
cheers,
jerry

You are right to be suspicious. Any of these auto renew programs have a very good chance to be come a nightmare if you decide not to continue.
Plus, I kinda wonder why the $2.95 charge. Wouldn't a free trial be a much better offer?
And, where is the certificate good, for what, for how long, and when?
I have helped lots of folks fight there way out of auto renew hell. It can be very tough. :td:
With that said, I did sign up for a wine offer through Amex a while ago. Got some good wine at a good price and it was easy enough to cancel. YMMV.

Seems like a good deal. Except that we don't know the usefulness of the certificate.
