Hertz - Rent in Germay, drive to Slovenia?

:)For my Hertz rentals in Germany I usually use www.expedia.de as insurance is included and rates are far better than my CDP on Hertz.com

I was planning a little vacation next month driving Bavaria/Austria/Slovenia/Italy/Switzerland.

From www.expedia.de Hertz regulations:

Fahrten in die folgenden Länder bzw. Regionen sind nicht erlaubt: Afrika, Asien, Bulgarien, Bosnien-Herzegowina, Griechenland, GUS (Gemeinschaft Unabhängiger Staaten), Kroatien, Mazedonien, Montenegro, Naher Osten, Rumänien, Serbien und Türkei. 'Driving to the following areas or regions is not allowed: Africa, Asia, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovena, Greece, former Soviet Union, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Middle East, Romania, Serbia, Turkey'

From the Hertz.com website:
Hertz vehicles may be driven, but not dropped off in Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Certain exceptions apply. Please refer to "One-Way Rentals" in the location index.

Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi models as well as convertibles, Landrovers and Chrysler Cherokees cannot be driven into or dropped off in Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.

So, my question is if I book on the www.expedia.de site as usual, and get my usual Mercedes A class, will the Hertz.com rules apply, even if I am not 'aware' of them? ie the site I book with does not show the same rules....

(and yes, I strongly suspect that I know the answer to this question! :D )

You answered it yourself, but yes, I have experienced this one firsthand as well. One time, I parked the Mercedes in Graz while I rented a Peugeot to go into Slovenia and then returned it to Graz and continued on in the Mercedes. Budget in Graz will also rent an Alfa that can go in Slovenia if you don't like the Peugeot.

That is EXACTLY what I am considering. I'll be in Graz for a few nights, so was either going to rent a 2nd car in Villach or Graz. thanks for the input!

For whatever reason, rentals in Austria have had laxer country restrictions.

I remember I couldn't take a German rental into the Czech Republic or into Slovenia. Not a problem renting in Austria. Then again, Austrian rates were always higher.

This is all based on rentals 5, 8, and 11 years ago - things are likely different now.

Does anyone know if this information is still accurate? I can't find updated verbiage on the Hertz site.

One possible plan for a trip this summer is to fly into MUC and drive down to Slovenia and Croatia. We will definitely visit both countries.

From reading that verbiage, it seems that Hertz is concerned about their high-end cars. We have no problem renting a compact or midsize car, but that could easily be a low-end VW in Munich, according to the Hertz site.

Just wondering if I need to call Hertz and give them the specific German phrase for "I am going to drive to Slovenia and Croatia" to put into my record so I don't get a VW Polo or something...

Sorry, could not find any better link, but this one (http://cgi.ebay.de/Mietwagen-Gutschein-7-Tage-Fahrspass-mit-Navigation_W0QQitemZ320357854379QQcmdZViewItemQQpt ZGutscheine_1?hash=item320357854379&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1229%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318) points you to an official Hertz Auction on ebay.de. If you scroll down to the very end of the offer, you'll find a map explaining all restrictions regarding the countries in question.

Excellent - that looks consistent with what was posted earlier (at least with respect to Croatia and Slovenia).

I can confirm that it is still completely accurate, as of last week with a rental by exbayern in Bayern. :D (Who didn't make it to Slovenia yet)
