There appear to be some "Enhancements" and "changes" to
Purchase Protection on all purchases made after NOV 1.

Ya know, I saw this on my statement last week as well, but nothing seems to have changed IMO. There seems to be a lot more "legalese", but the core benefits and regulations appear unchanged.

I might be wrong though; anybody else care to chime in?

It looks to be a total restatement of the benefit. If you have not yet received a statement in September you should see it soon, it's about three pages and there is no summary highlighting changes. In the likely event that you no longer receive paper statements from American Express the changes are, of course, in the online PDF version.

Just received mine - can't say I had committed the precise terms of the previous program, but the only changes seem to be the exceptions, incl flooring and other fixtures, etc...

can anyone else see something of significance?

Current exclusions are mentioned in this message...

[Edit: Removed link because message referred to Return Protection Guarantee rather than Purchase Protection.]

So the exceptions are fewer/narrower?

Wow...all those exclusions...I wonder if there are any other items that are excluded. Let's say...a Montblanc pen...would that be considered jewlery? It's remarkable that with all the exclusions that ppl still think this is a valuable benefit of Amex.

Is this for all cards? I see exclusions such as Jewellry not being covered. However, Platinum and Centurions currently get $2,500 coverage there.

I hope they aren't taking that away from us!

My mistake, the linked message described the Return Protection Guarantee exclusions. I have removed the link from my previous message and will look for the correct information.

It appers that protection is now secondary to your primary insurance carrier.

...secondary ....

I don't think this is a change, unless they have updated the website prematurely.

Coverage is limited to up to $1,000 per Occurrence ($10,000 for Platinum Card® and Centurion® Card members), up to $50,000 per Cardmember Account per policy year, and is in EXCESS of other sources of indemnity

This has been the case for a while now, at least for larger purchases. Under $150 or so, they never ask for insurance information.

When they do ask, I just view it as a formality and just say I don't have other insurance when filing a claim; makes it a lot easier.

It looks like "lost" is no more covered for Platinum and Centurion cardholders.

I got my statement and it doesn't look like loss is excluded. I notice it says 'Coverage is now underwritten by RBC/Sun assurance companies. '
Perhaps this is Canada-only related, though.
